Ok its started... 😁

Need something a bit smarter than my thoroughly abused Alpkit Filoment down jacket for pub Gardens, especially given the pics from friends in Oxfordshire today!

I might just get another Filoment, but what other options are worth considering for something which can be popped in a rucksack when walking to the pub, so lightweight and packable, but fairly snuggly sitting around in British evenings? And about £100?

I have a Trespass packable outer layer I throw over assorted fleeces. Ideal for keeping the wind out and a huge degrees warmer than I imagined.

I'm suprised you have to ask:

The beer garden I'm aiming for is covered so thankfully rain isn't an issue, but warmth will be.

Up top:
TNF 700 fill down jacket
Heavy fleece hoody
Merino base layer
Roubaix type long sleeve running top
Silk liner gloves
Hestra ski gloves

Bottom:
Thermal running tights
Debating if black salopettes are too much, jeans if not...
On-One Thicky socks
Gore-tex lined running shoes

I'm not messing around...!

I’m suprised you have to ask:

Are beards compulsory with those action blankets?

No, but beards have a higher U value, so are more thermally efficient.

I like beer as much as the next chap - but seriously, why bother with all that palava?

Just have a beer at home and go to the pub when it's warmer.

Clearly Scruff, you don't.

Also pub is about so much more than beer.

My thoughts too. I can have a beer with 5 mates spaced out in a garden as and when the weather suits, much better

Just put your big coat on and your bestest pair of big boy pants

You'll be okay

I like beer, I like pubs. I'll start going back to them when it's warmer or I can go inside.

Simple answer is that I like pubs and I like the people within them, and I've missed them. Nothing more complex than that.

Don’t have any sensible recommendations but given it’s still snowing up here I’d be aiming for a decent sleeping bag to ward off the evening chill. Not that the pubs are opening here any time soon.

I bought a replica M65 winter jacket for sitting outside our local pub, just in time for all the pubs to shut last year.

Just have a beer at home

Having a beer alone at home is the equivalent of lidl crunchy nut cornflakes.

Surely the only acceptable answer is a beer jacket?!

It hasn't appeared to have caused my wife to sprout one luckily.

Depends, I might wear my CWU45-P flying jacket, it’s got a microfibre insulated lining, and is almost ridiculously warm, or my blanket-lined Lee Stormrider 101 denim jacket with a down vest/gilet over that.
Or possibly my Gulf War night camo desert parka, which is designed to be worn over battledress and has a button-in quilted lining, it’s baggy and really comfy to wear.
The flying jacket is genuine not a cheap nylon copy, it’s made from Nomex, the flameproof material fire-fighters and racing drivers suits are made from - got it from a second-hand clothing company in London called Rokit; cost £80, new they’re over £300. All I care about is being cosy and warm, and that jacket is toasty! (Pun intended). 😁

Got a table booked on Wednesday, GF has refused to wear a hat as she had her hair done today, I shall be wearing a bobble hat & as many layers as I can while still leaving room for the only reason I'm going to the pub, namely these

The Pub (unless it has a flat roof) may be combined or not combined with Beer but it is more than beer it is friends and semi-normality, it is a break from suburban overcrowding and the pseudo-prison of my home office in which I've worked, eaten and fallen asleep far too many times after one too many late nights at my desk for most of the last year. This (to me) is why its worth it more than just in the garden. Not doing anything vaguely normal with friends has battered my mental wellbeing something chronic and while I'm not up for taking silly risks I know also that I "need" this human interaction and change of scene enough for a bit of Mr StayPuft.

So I'm going with some cheapo synthetic puffer jacket thing over a hoody and with my short sailing jacket (chunky waterproof) on top, a hat and some thick socks in my trainers. Since I'll have been for a ride I'll just pull some jeans over my bib 3/4s and that should do it for an hour or so.

I'm sure I could, maybe even should, up my game with regard to fashion and/or quality but that lot will get me through the next few weeks.

And about £100?

Feel lucky having my local beer gardens in rural Gloucestershire and Herefordshire. Making my £24 poncho neither ironic nor out of place. Then it also doubles up as tarp/groundsheet should I need a bit of a lie down on the Commons or Hills on the walk home. Or if get a bit lost. You could probably just treat it like a tent that is worn.

Surely Musto is the go to pub label. Obviously you'd need a selection from the sailing and the horsey ranges in order to satisfy all eventualities.

Well given that the number of people wanting to go to pubs will for the time being exceed capacity there may be a need to defend your table.
