Taking up some rotten decking and found this beauty lurking underneath. Any idea what variety it is? Abdomen probably about 8-10mm across.
False widow
I just did the same. Lost count of them. The first one I found was very gloss black, I jumped!
Yep, false widow. Don't lick it.
Nicely photographed! What phone/camera?
Thanks all. It's not a fast mover, but has now disappeared.
@desperatebicycle it was taken on S24 Ultra.
👍
My first thought was Steatoda nobilis, or false widow. I’ve got one lurking in my kitchen, up near the ceiling out of the way. Hopefully when it’s warmer and I’ve got the windows open, and the outside door, it’ll help keep the flies down.
I've held several tarantulas. It's surprisingly calming. I wouldn't hold a house spider, they creep me out way more.
