You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
The bot would alert if for certain replies it wouldn’t be sure of that would generate a user response before it would start again.
Ah that is interesting, I had been wondering how it might handle things like corkscrew length
I need to ride my bike more with real people.
The only line that really matters in this thread. Everyone take note.
Interesting points made on home ownership ^^^ by McC, probably not what the bot intended. I'm interested in how the housing crisis might impact on voting so maybe it's not altogether bad. When we read 'idealogical' and 'propoganda' we might assume it's a bot-free thread.
I tried to break bot sometimes when trying to call customer service online. LOL!
I do it just for the sake I can especially when the bot says please repeat the question etc. Then gave me a list of predefined options. Sort that I will have some fun with it.
I just assumed the whole point was to identify the home owning boomers of STW so they could be targeted separately and either convince them to put the surpluses millions they obviously all have into crypto, or to sign their their property over for cash and avoid the (apparently inevitable) property crash...
STW is sadly a prime target now being a hotbed of comfortably off middle-aged, middle-class people with disposable income and time...
This might ostensibly be a bicycling website but we have extensive threads on watches, coffee makers, #vanlife, Cars, etc, etc. Which just flags the forum as being rich pickings for those filthy millennial hustlers that want all your moneys!
This has taken my mind back to a forum I was on years ago to stop bots the owner made a log in /register question about the best football team in the world. The answer was his favorite football team and the clue was on the bottom of the page.
I think your all bots as no-one got my obvious war games reference 🙂
You see bots tag each other on facebook new pages
@bot2 look at this you like this
@bot1 think yes I do that’s interesting
I saw that on an Insta thread the other day, it was quite amusing as it just turned into a whole branch of bots nattering away at each other. It's now got me wondering if there is a way to hijack the conversation and get them talking (even more) total bollocks.
It was amusing watching the thread develop after the initial “and why shouldn’t someone join a cycling forum and make their very first post a subject that has nothing to do with cycling” defenders had replied.
Some "people*" are still defending it.
Makes you think.
*We only have their word to say they're people.
It’s now got me wondering if there is a way to hijack the conversation and get them talking (even more) total bollocks
Let the bots talk amongst themselves LOL! For example, Siri with Alexa etc
I glanced at the thread yesterday when it was new and didn't think anything of it. Now I've seen this and looked again at the thread it's all adding up...
A few years ago I posted a thread about pensions and finances and a financial adviser who's a member here (I still don't know his forum name) contacted me. It turns out he's a lovely bloke, I've had great advice and service from him, been for a bike ride over Cannock Chase with him and as a result of our dealings I've got a great pension scheme and - yes, you guessed - 3 rental houses as well as the one we live in.
Nothing too spooky yet, but when we went to his office one time ... it's right next to the Tunnocks Teacake factory. It all makes sense now!
no-one got my obvious war games reference
I recognised it as a meme but haven't seen the film so thought no more about it.
Let the bots talk amongst themselves
Hmm, I've just been re-reading Excession
Tony
Teacake
Turing
Test
Heavens, surely not that obvious to everyone then?
We're not all dentists 😉
Anyway....
Don't feed the troll bot.
We’re not all dentists 😉
Obliviously, some of us are bots.
So..Chewy, JHJ... any others we can think of?
'bot' implies a level of sophistication I'm not sure is there, it looked to me more like cut-and-paste spam spreading doubt in financial structures (of the west?) do this in enough places people may start to think 'I must protect myself from this potential downturn' before you know it market instability. After all financial markets don't reflect the value of businesses now, but where people think value will be in future. Change enough minds and a real financial impact can be made. FUD? Fear Uncertainty Doubt. Timing too, do it Saturday lunchtime when you can't trade till Monday to amplify effects.
BTW I know people who would fail the Turing Test so I'm not sure that's helpful 😉
If this AI stuff is so bloody clever, could someone ask it to
-Add a like button
-Stop adds from bogging down the whole thing
-Make the search function work
😆
That’s an interesting point leffeboy, what do you think of the future for smelling bots?
Possibly having to complete an ‘I am not a bot’ test checking photos for ones with bicycles, VW T3/4/5 vans or mugs of tea with cake?
Which is a terrifying thought, it’s bad enough already with the sodding cookie permission pop-up!
I just assumed the whole point was to identify the home owning boomers of STW so they could be targeted separately and either convince them to put the surpluses millions they obviously all have into crypto, or to sign their their property over for cash and avoid the (apparently inevitable) property crash…
Christ, it’s bad enough that I regularly get junk mail through the door from local estate agents trying to persuade me to sell my house! 😖🤬
It’s now got me wondering if there is a way to hijack the conversation and get [the bots] talking (even more) total bollocks.
A haunting thought:
The only inhabitants of a post-apocalyptical web will be inane chattering bots on whatever services remain online.

I sometimes fail these and those ones where you have to type in the characters.
The only inhabitants of a post-apocalyptical web will be inane chattering bots on whatever services remain online.
So the YouTube comments section then?
I tried to break bot sometimes when trying to call customer service online. LOL!
Following the above, what happens if a Bot realises it's a Bot.....
The only inhabitants of a post-apocalyptical web will be inane chattering bots on whatever services remain online.
Probably covered in Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy somewhere. DNA was a perceptive chap.
Many companies are now using bots for at least the initial part of your communication with them.
Social media interactions broadly fall into two fields I believe:
Influencing for the purpose of advertising (very effective on some people given the two young people sitting next to me on the train yesterday).
Influencing for the purpose of political or financial manipulation.
Bots are also used to collect and assemble data (eg the equal pay bot on twitter recently). Similarly aggregating and automating buying processes - eg your car bot.
It doesn’t have to convince anyone, you don’t have to believe anything – its job is just put the a question in someones thoughts that wasn’t there before.
The likes of the Daily Mail have been dining out on this approach for years, the 'headline as a question' gambit means you can say what you like without recourse. "COULD TURMERIC CAUSE CANCER" might be an innocuous example; the answer of course is invariably "no" but it might cause the hard of thinking to stop buying turmeric. Now replay that with something about immigrants. It's Propaganda 101.
I think your all bots as no-one got my obvious war games reference 🙂
A curious game, Professor Falken.
Heavens, surely not that obvious to everyone then?
It was a blatant clue. Blatant!
Wait, are you telling me you've been playing the crap version of Rimmer?
The idea of two bots talking to each other is not as exciting as the thought of what would happen if I plugged my USB power pack into itself. Actually, what would happen?
For example, yesterday I got what was obviously an automated call saying there had been dodgy activity on my ID and bank and before they issued an arrest warrant in my name I should press ‘1’ on my phone to talk to the police
I just had that 5 mins ago, although I don't think it was a bot, if it was having a message in English with an indian accent telling me my German ID card had been misused lacked sophistication. I believe pressing 1 calls out to a new premium rate number, so surely there should be a simple technical fix on the phone network to resolve that issue.
I am all for a law making people having to verify online accounts to drive out the bots and trolls.
Wait, are you telling me you’ve been playing the crap version of Rimmer?
🤣🤣🤣🤣
‘headline as a question’
Add to that the 'question as an accusation' gambit, which politicians have been dining out on for years also!
When I read or hear about 'bots' doing this, I immediately imagine a robot sat at a computer, with robot fingers typing on a keyboard... reading a screen..
Please tell me this is how it works....
PLEASE....
DrP
lOoks loke he can type as gud as m3!
Infinite power,
Itty-bitty living space!

Not as far as I know and I haven't seen any charges. Got a second one today but just ignored it. I like that on Android phones you can mark them as spam to reduce the chances of others getting called. Almost all of the fake you have a parcel type texts get blocked as spam now
What sandwich did there…
I see it.
*doffs cap*
