In this weeks organic veg delivery we have a mystery veg, green swirly kind of cauliflower?
Any ideas on what it is, and how I'm best to cook / deal with it? I thought I was pretty well versed in fruit & veg but this one is new to me..
PS i know its Broccoli on the left,,,
Romanescu. Treat it like broccoli.
Neat, there's golden spirals in it.
/Nerd
I've found it, and I'm almost ashamed to explain how because I think I just outgeeked myself. It's romanesco.
(I found it by googling "fibonacci vegetable")
And, out-nerded to it. Blast. Well done guys.
(-:
Aye, romanesco. Benoit B. Mandelbrot's favourite vegetable 🙂
(PS did you know the "B" in "Benoit B. Mandelbrot" stands for "Benoit B. Mandelbrot"?)
😀
Excellent, I look forward to cooking some of it up tonight to go with the T bone steaks.
Next decision is Dauphinoise potatoes, or chunky wedges?
that's my fave nerd joke, Bez 🙂
Romanesco is delicious. Love it. Haven't had it for years. There's a good Podgy Cockney recipe for brocolli and romanesco canelloni. I tried ith with cauli and broc and it worked a treat so should be better with romanesco.
Found the recipe: here
(PS did you know the "B" in "Benoit B. Mandelbrot" stands for "Benoit B. Mandelbrot"?)
What I like best about this joke is that the "B" doesn't actually stand for anything, Mandelbrot made it up in order to sound more interesting. So, it's entirely possible that it does stand for "Benoit B. Mandelbrot" and it was his private little joke.
Dauphinoise potatoes, with extra garlic.
Your best best it to take it to Morrison's and flog it for £2.99
Treat it like broccoli.
Straight in the chicken scraps tub with it then 🙂
Dauphinoise potatoes, with extra garlic.
Stop it..... hungry now...... 😐
that's my fave nerd joke, Bez
That's a tough call but I think my favourite geek joke is probably:
What goes "pieces of seven, pieces of seven"?
A parroty error.
Is there a thread to be had in "favourite geek / niche jokes" I wonder? I've got loads.
"the "B" doesn't actually stand for anything, Mandelbrot made it up in order to sound more interesting"
Now, that I didn't know.
Fibonacci?
Are fractals allowed on the iDave diet?
(where i is the sq root of -1)
It's a good one Bez, right up there with..
What's an anagram of Banach-Tarski?
Banach-Tarski Banach-Tarski.
Thanks Cougar
But please spare us any more like that
Wait - Dave is imaginary?
No, Dave would be real, just iDave would be imaginary.
That explains why the iDave diet doesn't contain any root vegetables...
... and the importance of square meals...
Ok, I'll stop now.
Thats some seriously fractal veg.
What I like best about this joke is that the "B" doesn't actually stand for anything, Mandelbrot made it up in order to sound more interesting.
you would have try harder than that to make a mathematician interesting!
Tell us what it tastes like. Looks Yum.
It's a great looking veg. I'll take some more pics before cooking it up. Dauphinoise potatoes won the family vote too..
Now just need to dig out a bottle or two of red wine and I can officially call a start to the weekend.
Working from home on a Friday's great!
It tastes like a sort of light version of broccoli, I just thought it was a variety of it.
Cougar - nice jokes 🙂
Fruit & veg: if you add the mark out of 10 for looks to the marks out of 10 for flavour you always get 11.
So that wonderful looking thing up there is going to taste rubbish.
(where i is the sq root of -1)
Don't even go there.
If idave is imaginary, then who makes the diet? Pixies?
Take some LSD and just sit and look at it, I reckon.
Classic:
There are only 10 types of people in the world: Those who understand binary, and those who don't
The stuff on the left, looks a lot like calabrese (pronounced something like cala-brayzay)

For the record, it didn't taste very nice. Too much like cauliflower for me.
Next time I get one I'll sell it on the classifieds,,, £2.99 + postage. Must be some middle class foodies out there that would snap it up,
