Have we ever read The Times? I suspect that I am in a tiny minority in doing so, it's always been mostly Guardian readers on here

I’ll read anything online not behind a paywall, so unfortunately not the Times or the Telegraph, as I like to see what the alternative points of view are. But I mostly trust the Guardian BBC online and Independent whereas the others….
So fairly peak STW I guess, although I don’t have an e-bike, log burner or electric car but did have an Orange 5, German estate car and work part time on the peripherals of the healthcare system so closer to the old peak.

I hardly register on either this year's list or the 2022 proposals. Maybe I need to find a different forum.

Me neither.  I've got a wood burner, that's it.  Radical I know, but perhaps we should look for a mountain bike forum? 😉

I have one from the first list and one from the second.
It's all about the SUV isn't it, or was that 2019?

Nothing of either list.

Hoping to rectify one of them though

The only thing I'm close to ticking on either list is owning a partly German, but uber STW, Czech estate car.

Well, I have zero on the first list. But three on the second. I've never felt so included.

Do we want to add trail dogs to the list or is that a bit passé?

It'll be someone who reads a thread title and then marches in to tell everyone how much they dislike the subject of the thread.

Or someone who can quickly list all the negative qualities of a recently deceased celebrity in an RIP thread.

Gravel bike

£800 coffee grinder

That'll be me then, other than the eco-guilt is caused by an SUV with premium all-season tyres on each corner.

My 'gravel' bike is niche steel 29+ with all the frame bags for extra STW points too 🤨

Electric MTB
Korean Electric car
Works in IT or sales marketing
Runner
Part time vegan
Plays guitar
Skis or snowboards
Reads the Guardian

It's not looking good for me. I do get to drive my wife's Tesla, and I do play guitar. That's about it for me. Mind you, I didn't get many ticks from the first list either. I did own a Sub Five and a wood burner, but both of those have gone away.

No mentions of gravel bikes, Japanese knives, dedicated craft IPA fridge, Campag corkscrew or reading glasses? C'mon! 🙂

Electric MTB. Nope. Analogue and proud! (does hating the use of the word analogue in this context get me the point though?)
Korean Electric car. Nope. Do have three ICE vehicles though. All French so that doubtless counts against me. One is a campervan so again that surely supports my STWness - not a VW however...).
Works in IT or sales marketing. Nope. Teacher, so even more reviled by the mainstream media.
Runner. Nope. Ankles collapse if I try. Zoe does run though so can I have a proxy point?
Part time vegan. Nope. a happy omnivore but if you serve me vegan food I won't really notice or be bothered.
Plays guitar. Nope. Have failed to play any of the many instruments I've tried to. Not bad at a bit of sequencing and producing though.
Skis or snowboards. Nope. Started to board indoors a few years back and picked it up quite quickly but never applied that in the real world... Yet.
Reads the Guardian. Nope. Don't read any physical paper, or anything behind a paywall. Must admit though that if I did read a paper of choice it would probably be the Grauniad.

Am I therefore the most STW-adjacent member? In support of my application...

Do have a Lego collection.
Do have more kitchen knives (and knives in general) than is probably healthy.
Own (and use) more than one non-bike multi-tool.
Am a fan of IPA but don't have a dedicated fridge for it.
No Orange in the current quiver (!) but am a Cotic fanboi (currently 3 in the garage).
Liberal (in the traditional sense) leftie.

Electric MTB - nope
Korean Electric car - nope
Works in IT or sales marketing - nope
Runner - nope
Part time vegan - Flexitarian? Yes!
Plays guitar - nope
Skis or snowboards - nope
Reads the Guardian - Online? Sometimes, along with the FT, Mail, RT, inews, France24, Reuters, Atlantic, India Times, etc, etc. so…

it’s a miss from me.

Rigid 29er, tourer
Successive old bangergnomix
Primary carer/SLD teaching-assistant
Swims and hikes
Flexitarian. NB: there is no ‘part time vegan’, just like there is no ‘part-time Jedi’ (discounting cosplay)
Plays drums
Reads anything and everything

Electric MTB - Can't see that ever happening
Korean Electric car - My next car will be EV and could be Korean I suppose
Works in IT or sales marketing - IT
Runner - I cycle, why would I run
Part time vegan - Yep, although by accident as lifelong vegetarian so much of what I eat is vegan
Plays guitar - Yep
Skis or snowboards - Used to when I went on holidays many years ago
Reads the Guardian - Yep

There’s probably two STW personas - the one above and shared by around 5% of members who regularly contribute to the forum and the other 95% of members who just read the forum comments and roll their eyes 😂

Lol, There's a lot of truth in many people buying their way out of a skill dearth, but really, ebiker? Peak STW? Not a chance, as soon as ebikes are mentioned the morality queens are all over it!.

I'd say that peak STW persona really needs to be an e-hater tbh.

Which is quite funny when some of these folks spend so much time on here, god knows when they actually cycle! 🤔 🤣

should definitely be on the list - interesting that watches haven't been mentioned as this was one of the old qualifiers (seiko for the full cliche points)

If 340km over the course of a year makes me a runner then I only have that one Tick from both lists.

I am somewhat baffled by some of the factors not listed though and wondered if the OP had been a bit selective in their choice in order not to incriminate themselves 😉

STW Gravel club

90s mtb with drop bar conversion
beard
check shirt that you describe as "plaid"
dropper post on your gravel bike
insist on riding your gravel bike on mtb trails
get miffed when someone says a CX bike "is the same thing"
craft ale stops take longer than riding time
twin peaking
refuse a rear mudguard on asthetic reasons
use "asthetic" rather than looks
refuse a back pack but have more pockets than 10 marsupials bulging with "essentials"
your own youtube channel
put every word in "..."
have all the bike packing kit but never go bike packing

Does Berlingo ownership count nowadays?

Only if you suggest it on every "what car" thread irrespective of what the OP asks about.

Electric cars ownership is now peak STW though but has to come with a hefty dose of cost blindness, and a T6 on the drive for weekends...

Passed with a few minor indiscretions.

Orange 5 – No. Closest I’ve come is a pair of Orange Lycra shorts circa 1993.
German Estate Car – No, never owned an estate. Do have a German car though.
Worked in health care – No. Public servant.
Wood burner – Yep. Came with the house but never bought one.
Reads the Times – No chance.

Electric MTB – No. Until such time that my knees stop working I’m happy with the bikes I’ve got.
Korean Electric car – No.
Works in IT or sales marketing – No. see above.
Runner – Semi retired. Only done 100km this year in total. Was running ten times that in 2019.
Part time vegan – I’ll eat pretty much anything.
Plays guitar – No. Tone deaf.
Skis or snowboards – Yep, love it more than biking I think. Just wish I had local mountains for access each season.
Reads the Guardian – Yep. Decent northern rag.

Runner - Nope!
Part time vegan - I'm Vegan when I'm not eating...
Plays guitar - Nope

I think droppers gravel bikes will crop up allot this year along with ever larger tyres on drop bar bikes.

I think most forum members will have converted a van by the end of the year. Most of then will be converted to have accommodation but we might see a few yachts, sheds, workshops, fast food outlets and mobile tech support

There will continue to be bizarrely out of place threads about massively powerful and fast road cars and how fast people drive them

'Peak STW' definitely involves being a higher rate taxpayer.

Perhaps that's too obvious, as you'd need it to pay for all the stuff in both versions, but...

Korean Electric car - Nope. Wife has a Toyota hybrid though, does that count?
Works in IT or sales marketing - Well I do plenty of those
Runner - Hate running. I do sometimes do it though
Part time vegan - Occasionally eat meals without animal products in. Does that count?
Plays guitar - I wish
Skis or snowboards - Double tick.
Reads the Guardian - Also tick.
