Theres a bit of a 'trend' been going on with zz top style beards recently - Why? They look ridiculous in my opinion! a beard yes but not one down to your chest.

Beards can provide aerodynamic advantages though:

Not wanting to offend any beardy folk as I occasionally grow one, just not sure why you'd want a beard that long, mine gets annoying at 1cm long!
I just wondered if its a niche thing at the mo?!

It's the middle-class equivalent of this 🙂

sometimes people with office bound, suit wearing and hierarchical jobs tend not to like beards because they are not allowed them, they remind them that they have to conform.

I get a shaving rash if I shave everyday so I have a beard. On the odd occassion I have let it grow it just annoys the hell out of me and it gets cut back in fairly short order.

Strangely for a man who hates the USA, Osama always wears a US Army surplus Woodland Camo M65 jacket and sports a ZZ Top beard.

What's quite interesting about that Osama B photo is that he seems to need to accessorise the long beard with a short gun...
...fashion eh?

Not that the gun is any use to him, he'll never manage to pick it up with those beadle hands. No wonder he's so bitter (and doesn't shave)

beards are for men who've given up all hope of ever having sex again - except perhaps with other beardy men 🙂

Is it 'cos i is metal?

http://www.metalhammer.co.uk/news/21-best-beards-in-metal/

(I think the most I've seen in one place was at a Hammerfall gig - the viking metal end of things..)

Tsk, SFB...never heard of rock chicks ?
😉

Not sure why you'd want one that short :p

FWIW I had a goatee of that sort of length for years, about 5 years back I thought I'd do the job properly...still a goatee, just a long one, 'cos I hate not being able to wash most of my face. In any case, it reached kinda Osama-length after about 6 months, which is about as long as it gets.

It's certainly a source of amusement for my OH - she looks/sounds quite posh whilst I look like a band roadie...so I lend her some street cred at metal gigs ('wtf's she doing here..ah, she's with him..'), vice versa anywhere more 'respectable'.
She's also noticed that it tends to leave little children a little dumbstruck 😉
