I am lifting clearing and relaying my patio and have discovered clearing all the broken concrete and rubble from underneath isn't much fun.

I know a 14 year old lad who wants to earn money.

What's a reasonable hourly rate for filling rubble sacks and chipping away bits of concrete?

£5 per hour or £30 for a whole day.

Just be careful he can't get injured and take you to court.

Give him £30 for the job or you will need a second mortgage on an hourly rate with a 14 year old...

Don't forget that HSE regs also mean you have to provide him with the correct Personal Protective Equipment at your own expense.

Which should at a minimum constitute a pair of steelies and gloves from the sound of it.

Probably safer if WCA watches from inside the house sitting in a comfy chair with a beer.
Let him negotiate his wages, hammer him onto a price for the whole job then payment 30 days from months end after invoice is submitted. Will track him a valuable lesson about contracting.

Why is the 14 year old not working this out for himself? Are kids really that daft these days?

Let him send you the bill and you'll find out what he thinks he's worth.

DO NOT GO FOR AN HOURLY RATE!!!!
By the bag or preferably an amount for the whole job.

Depends on how big the bags are.

I'd got for a fixed rate for the job and penalty clauses for non completion in the agreed timescale 😉

Well you price per bag accordingy to how big each bag is.

And should probably be by the rubble sack. Anything bigger will be too heavy.

or yes, agree about fixed price.

Just not by the hour is my experience of 14 year olds is anything to go by (my nephew).

Agreed £5 per hour and he will get chucked off the job if it see him slacking.

I know he needs the money more than I need the pain and I have enough possible future jobs to keep him on his toes.

Having spent today lifting slabs, clearing rubble, mixing cement and relaying the slabs I am happy to declare that I am richer than I am strong. Let some one else take the strain.
