My HP Enve has bitten the dust. I did subscribe to HP Smart, but I just became more and more frustrated since I found the damn printer so incredibly frustrating and unreliable - sometimes it would work perfectly, but often the print would take an age to print.

i need a wireless printer please. Anyone have any particular recommendations? Thanks

Epson EcoTank ET-1810 or ET-2850 depending if you want a scanner too. Tank refills rather than cartridges makes lots of sense to me. You pay a bit more at the off but it comes with a lot of prints worth of ink.

Brother mono laser - sits in the cupboard, occasionally needs new paper - it just works.

Another vote for Brother laser. Just keeps working. Happily takes unbranded toner which is cheap and lasts ages (literally years for me). Even when the toner officially runs out you can give it a shake, reset the counter and get quite a few more prints while you order new toner.

(Boringly) Brother Laser. You can get a colour one pretty cheaply (£200?) and they just go on and on. If you want photos printed just get that done online.

Another vote for Brother laser, works instantly every time. Would never go back to an inkjet.

Another brother laser user here, I think laser instead of jet printer is the important part, inkjet printers are based on the economics of cheap printer expensive consumables, laserjets move the needle a bit more in the consumers direction.

Another Brother Laser fan here. Works with Mopria print app for android and straight out of windows.

Black and white is enough for me.

According to the app on my phone I have an HP Envy 6020.

I subscribe for about £1.50/month for 15 pages, occasionally I have to pay a pound or so for some more.

It’s the first printer I’ve had that just works and it’s also pretty cheap to run for an inkjet.

I like to be able to print photos so a laser isn’t really any good for me.

we've a HP Envy 6000.

Complete and utter whanky PITA.  Loses connection for no good reason. Have to constantly re-configure and re-install. Hieroglyphics for indicators of what's wrong (or sometimes no indication at all).

Get something else. Seems everyone else says Brother laser.  I'll be  investigating that myself.

I got the cheapest HP from Tesco about 5 years ago and pay a few pounds a month for ink. It works. Wireless connection is fine. I use 4 different pc's all over the house with no problems. I can't remember when I last had a problem with it.

I actually have a Xerox laser C235 mainly cause I wanted the smallest multifunction I could find.  It is surprisingly small for a laser.  But basically any laserjet should do the job.  They're just pretty big.

Brother laser +1. It just works, regardless of how often or infrequently you use it

As many others have said - Brother Laser for the win.  I bought a DCP1610W for £82 a few years ago and it's by far the best printer I've ever had.

It genuinely "just works",  or doesn't do the inkjet warm up and purge routine and multi page documents come out really quick. no ink nozzles to dry and clog up. Either  £25 for a 4 pack of third part toner and each one last for a long time.

It's WiFi connected to you can print from and scan to any PC or phone via WiFi.

For colour printing needs which for me is usually photos I send them off for a professional service, previously I used a colour inkjet for that and whilst hey looked good at first the prints faded badly quite quickly.

If I was buying one again Id get another brother laser, but look I to a colour one perhaps, although they then get quite a bit more expensive.

We bought a Xerox C235 and are unimpressed, it was 'cheap' to buy, 30 pages later we need a new black toner and the rest followed not long afterward, another £400 ontop. Now it's being a POS with the network and not being seen by other devices, so much so I've resorted to using a USB cable direct. Where as my 25+ year old HP 2100 just keeps going, admittedly it only sees intermittent use.

I wish I'd ignore the sales guy (cash back deal) and bought a brother now.

Yet another vote for whatever laser printer that fits your budget and needs with the word 'Brother' on the front of it.

Unfussy workhorses, they're brilliant.

I think we've got a Canon? Like all printers it works just fine if you're not in a rush, and is a temperamental prick if you are. I haven't taken an axe to it yet, most probably because I can print stuff at the library or chemist's for 0.10€ per page which is generally a lot less hassle.

Bought the cheapest Brother colour laser printer which also scans. Unfortunately it was £300. But at least im up and running again, and hopefully will not have another rage melt down any time soon, when the printer lets me down just before a critical meeting.

Hieroglyphics for indicators of what's wrong (or sometimes no indication at all).

My dad has one of these. It's an absolute PITA because it has connectivity issues and without being able to see it on the network/Windows app it's impossible to fix. We've got an older one that has a little screen, easy to sort out the wireless or any other slight problem, just keeps trucking.

Old hp 6200 on ink sub , has to be with a teacher at home , page count about 14k  keeps going - best to print from app if printing from phone. Also have a brother colour laser which works well cheap cartridges and if you Google service mode you can reset page count to use till empty - it is big and heavy so they both occupy a stacked space.

All depends what you really need , all in one inkjet is most flexible but needs to be on an ink subscription if you don’t want very irritating ink purchases

So, as I said, I took the above advice and bought a Brother laser jet. Apparently the ink cartridges are £40 each, and there are 4 of them! Did someone say that there are cheaper ink alternatives which work well? Hopefully I don’t need them for ages anyways!
