a proper TopGun moment

What looked like F-14 (possibly a F-15, twin tail fins anyway) passing low overhead and then pulling up into the sky leaving mini contrails from the tips of its wings as it did so. The contrails were visible for far longer than the plane was, dissipating slowly in a patch of sunlight. Big Smile for me 🙂

Thinking about some of the trails I was riding with Bike Verbier last week, especially Spanish Inquisition, Brazilian and the insanely good new one somewhere off the back of the bowl that might not even have a name yet. Roll on 2013...

I know this is immature and crude, but I did THE most tuneful, deep, rich and prolonged bottom burp when i woke up this morning. It resonated through the whole room, even getting a laugh from mrs peterfile before she jumped out of the bed screaming

Sunshine outside. My 4 year old boy coming back from school and running in to see me. Being able to pedal forward on an exercise bike for the first time in 3 months - I might even get to pedal a real bike tomorrow (been off the bike since May after a knee op - been a crap summer). Chatting to the lovely couple on the tandem at Slaidburn's YHA, then finding a route back which avoided Waddington Fell (steep). Also the compliments they gave me on my bike, as if it was the most technically advanced piece of bicycle technology they'd ever seen!

And the little girl trying to diagnose why the loo door won't shut on the train while a train chap with a torch keenly listened.

But not my puncture today. That was assballs.

Having to go to a meeting 8 miles away, and those 8 miles mostly coinciding with the canal.

15 miles of towpath riding in the sun, looking at the ducks and swans and the sunlight glinting off the water. On the company time. Sweet.

http://www.bgr.com/2012/09/05/iphone-5-design-copied-patented-goophone-i5/

Memo to Samsung (005930): Now this is how you get away with copying Apple (AAPL)! GizChina reports that a Chinese manufacturer has used leaked photos of Apple’s next-generation iPhone to slap together a quick knockoff of the device called the Goophone I5 and release it before Apple has a chance to launch the genuine article later this month. What’s more, the company has actually patented the knockoff design in China and is poised to sue Apple if it launches the next-generation iPhone in China later this year.

Working with a female colleague this morning on G wing. She was wearing a small cardboard box on her head (that I'd put there) & 4 prisoners came to the office & never said anything about it. The 5th one came & started laughing, which set me off.

Making my first batch of 60 litres of fresh apple juice.
Followed by chatting for over an hour with a very nice lady i'm seeing.
And then the day gets topped off with an Osprey stopping over for a few dips into the local reservoir.

It's been a day full of smiles

Out on a walk with the dog to recon some trails and stepping on a real soft spot, just over ankle deep in sludge with the dog in my arms. Swore at first like, but the smile shone through. 🙂

Doing an underground services survey today on some waste ground near Xxxxxx when a local came out to see what I was up to...

Now, this was a curtain twitching sort of area, nice properties, neighbourhood watch signs everywhere, I got the feeling the people would be like the folk from Stampford in Hot Fuzz, well kept but OTT garden flower arrangements in a bid for best kept subverb or something.

Anyway, he of course asked what I was doing etc and what for

" a playground I think swings, slides, roundabout some gardens I think"

"Oh that will be lovely, I was hoping it would become a park and not get built upon. You know, they wanted to build flats on it a few years ago, flats, imagine! I thought about buying the plot myself you know to turn it into a park"

Imagine his face when he finds out its going to be covered with affordable housing!

Oh how It made me chuckle.

going home in 2 minutes - 45 minutes through the woods then a very cold beer here:

Whitstable! That's in my top 10 favourite places, haven't been there for a while- my Kawasaki's been laid up 🙁

Watching Alan Olivera stroll through a 400m then Oscar Pistorious take it even easier to win by 10 seconds. Loving the mind games, tomorrows final is going to be worth waiting for.

And seeing Hannah Cockroft at the start of most ad breaks on channel 4- she always makes me smile, smiles for miles!

Not really something hat should make you smile but ... A Friend of mine lost his life yesterday morning, shot by accident, and in between the wtf moments the genuine volume, range and depth of love for him made me smile. He always had a smile on his dial and was a top bloke. Went for a run this morning as the sun came up and thought about how fragile life can be.

Fixed my dad's 10 year old string trimmer yesterday. Disassembled and cleaned the carb, cleaned the muffler and replaced the spark arrestor, and a few other minor things and got it running.

Today, tried to start it cold. Close choke, push primer bulb, pull starter cord, it fires once. Open choke, pull starter cord again, and it starts right up, exactly as it should when new! 😀
