First thing in the morning, the fingerprint wotsit on my phone never works. It takes about an hour before it will. What's going on?

You're timesharing your fingerprints with a Koala. Time difference with Australia innit.

You don't get them back until the eucalyptus leaves make it drowsy and it nods off.

Are you sure its reading your fingerprint? A lot of so called "fingerprint" readers are actually reading the pattern of blood capillaries (sp).

iPhone reads the actual fingerprint - you can fool it with a mold of your finger

I'm not using an iPhone, I'm using a Sony Android phone.

You’re timesharing your fingerprints with a Koala.

That's a good point.

My question is what have you been doing with your fingers in your sleep?

It wasn't me, it was the koala

I’ll bet there’s something programmed into the phone that says something like “after x no. of hours unused, wake only with passcode” . Might be able to turn it off in settings, but I wouldn’t bet on it.

Either that or Koalas, obvs

Riddled with chlamydia.

You should get yourself tested.

My phone has has a default security setting that disables the finger print scanner if not used for a few hours. It doesn't say that, just says finger print not recognised.
Could be the same thing?

Mine doesn't work if my hands are anything other than bone dry. Are you a sweaty betty of a morning?

Weirdly on my old phone the fingerprint reader wouldn't work if I was dehydrated and I'd have to lick my finger before it'd work.

You’ve rubbed them smooth during the night and they need time to refresh.

No, it doesn’t. It reads the subdermal vascular and electromagnetic patterns, which is in part why the system falls on its ass as soon as your fingers get wet, or even just damp. FaceID is far more reliable, and koalas can’t fool that. Well, not one on its own, two of them on the other hand, one to hold the phone, the other to hold your head up and pull your eyelids open...

Maybe you need to shave the koala?

I could open my brother’s iPhone about one time in four using face recognition. It was quite a while ago so not sure which model. It may have improved since.
I am an identical twin btw.

Have you tried getting it to learn your fingerprint in the morning as an additional print?

Pretty sure it's to do with the quantity of water in the skin. How about putting vaseline on last thing at night, then see if it works properly in the morning.
