Apologies, I can't remember the name, but someone posted a while back. I think he sold up and bought or had built a house somewhere in the countryside and absolutely hated it. I seem to recall it was somewhat lonely, perhaps insular and then had major mice problems.

/ switches to 2nd person...

How is it going now?
Any better, or did you sell up and move back south?

Best

He was in near Balquidder IIRC? Had a nightmare with mice and was struggling, I'd forgotten about him, hope he's okay.

Hopefully moved into the actual new house, left mice behind, now too busy having a good time to post!
God I felt for him with the mice tho. [Shudder]

TBF it was more than the mice he had problems with. Slagging off his neighbours became part of it, as did the weather/climate.

I hoped he'd moved in, settled in and was therefore under less stress and was viewing things somewhat more calmly.

A wee update would have been nice but he was starting to take a bit of flak on here so I can understand if he's decided to give STW a body swerve.

The first room I rented in Sheffield had mice. I know they're small and harmless but it's bloody horrible to live with!

Absolutely no sign of them during the day then you can hear them scratching around and running all over the place in the dark. They were nicer than the landlord though.

Our London office has mice (or had - they might have all starved during Covid lockdowns) and they were quite cute. Wouldn't want to sleep in the same room as them though!

It seemed clear the fella was in a bad place (and not just geographically).

Not sure a thread like this is helpful really.

Got the impression he was having pretty intense mental health struggles exacerbated by the problems he was having. I hope he's doing better now too.

Nothing cute about the way the stinky wee bastards dribble a trail of piss everywhere they go! Better than rats though, they're noisy little sods when they start speed-climbing in your wall cavity.

Likewise, I'd forgotten about this. Hope they're ok.

Was wondering about him the other day.

There's no need to rehash the problems he/they were facing, just genuinely hope that things sorted themselves oit and they are OK now. Would be nice to know, had been a longstanding forumite

They're fine... I've been round to feed the mice a few times recently 😉

If it's the same chap, my recollection was he was asking a large number of questions about his ongoing house build, to which the answer to all of them was "speak to your architect", but there seemed to be some issue there.

I asked about him a few months ago as was a bit concerned for the guy. He was in a really dark place and just wanted to see if he was ok. Never got an answer 🙁

Oh dear.
Didn't realise it was that long ago. Hope he worked stuff out.

I could have warned him if he'd asked. I grew up in the countryside. It sucks. The countryside is nice to look at on TV or in pictures, but cities are much nicer to actually live in.

I generally hate cities. I live on the edge of the arse end of nowhere now and I much prefer it. Each to their own.

As for mice, the solution is get a cat. If that doesn't fix it, get two cats. Our old farmhouse had mice when we moved in. Got a cat. No more mice (you know once the dead, headless ones had piled up in the kitchen each morning for a while).

Being in the midst of a not dissimilar project I can empathize. Everything just seemed to be going wrong for him. Can be a lonely place watching everything go to rat shit. Right now I'd finish the work, flog it and piss off but am hoping my perspective mellows as things progress but I doubt I'll ever get the passion back that I had before it spent four years consuming every penny and spare minute of my life. Hope he's out the other side and enjoying it.

I'd forgotten about that thread.

Yes, I hope he is well and truly settled in and in a much better place in all respects.

Seemed a decent bloke just going through a bit of a stressful time.

I have nothing useful to add.
For years I assumed his username was glo balti as opposed to global ti....doh!

I echo the posts wishing him well. Surely somebody on here must know him or where he is?
