just getting to grips with an entry level dslr camera I’ve bought and really pleased with the higher quality photo results, especially in more challenging conditions.
however, always liked the ability to apply post photo filters to add vibrancy etc. on my phone shots. Can achieve basic effects within the camera (and as master aperture, shutter speeds and exposure balance will get more of what I want) and can still do this for social media uploads via automatic blutooth transfer to my phone, however would like the same ability to apply post photo filters to the original high quality / res images once uploaded to lap top (so I can get them enlarged and printed after)
Can anyone recommend some free, easy to use software to do this. I’ve heard good things about Gimp??

Would need to be for PC as all I have available that I can import & save larger file size photos to in order to get them then blown up & printed - is there a free version of lightroom fir pc?
Nope, it's on plan for desktop

Other alternatives out there probably but it's really good for exactly what you want (and organising photos)
Thanks Mike, will give it a whirl for a month and see how I get on
Skylum Luminar and ON1 photo raw are both full featured raw converters with lots of filters/ways to play around.
They cost but both do a 30 day trial.
The filters/presets for colour images in Lightroom are quite limited, though I believe you can do download additional ones made by users. In the Develop module, presets are down the left side on the pane and the Develop settings are down the right. If you look at how the Develop settings change when you apply the presets, then you'll learn quite quickly how the filter/preset works and can easily start to develop without using them.
RawTherapee is free, can do lots of stuff for photo processing. It is designed for Raw photos, but most of it will also work for JPEG
Could also try Nik Collection, it is now a free download. It can do some fun effects. It is designed as a plugin for Photoshop, but works OK on its own.
Gimp seems really good , it is quite complicated to use though .
if you want FREE then GIMP is the software of choice, loads of video tutorials on youtube on how to use it 🙂
I use Darktable (another free Lightroom clone), but if you want simple and with a fair few preset filters I'd look at Polarr. Free and pay versions (20 quite IIRC). Doesn't have all the image/file management side of Lightroom etc. but does all the processing stuff really well. It's also totally cross platform (including a browser based version), so you can use exactly the same tools whether on phone, PC, tablet, whatever.

I never got on with Gimp, I found it bewildering. I use Paint.NET instead, it's very much like the old Paint Shop Pro. Not really the sort of thing for adding Instagram-a-like filters though.
Google have discontinued it, but if you can find a download for it then Picasa is free and was very good for things like contrast corrections etc.
