It used to be girders but since they took loads of sugar out it now tastes of stale piss.

It’s the same favour as sunrise with a mild hangover and a day full of promise ahead.

Its rankness condensed and carbonated.

And also happens to be the one drink were since the recipe change the diet is actually slightly nicer than the real deal.

That’s a question which could possibly not have an answer.
It’s a great question!!
What does original Lucosade taste of? It’s difficult to say.
Edit, obviously, TJ has the only answer.

As a Scot it’s Irn Bru flavoured like TJ says. My Wife who is Irish claims it tastes of bubblegum.

It’s diet IrnBru 1901 flavour.

1901 is the real deal. Accept no substitutes.

Hangover and regret, with a hint of 'the fear', but as Kelvin says, that sense of promise and nervy anticipation (also goes well with a curry)

I think you’ll find that it needs to be a well fired Mortons roll with square lorne sausage and a tattie scone.

I like the diet stuff and we're you to spill it no stickyness, as a bairn Irn bru would tickle your throat before it hit the tonsils

100 x better than diet coke , even if it was 1° I'd struggle to take more than a sip of that stuff

As above, 1901 or nothing, diet is still devil's piss.

I think you’ll find that it needs to be a well fired Mortons roll with square lorne sausage and a tattie scone.

And a runny egg. But not well fired, crispy is acceptable.

Like much fizzier Redbull?

Maybe bubblegum, as suggested earlier.

Tastes vile warm, but lovely when ice cold.

Probably just me but square and Lorne are almost the same thing - they are both flat square-ish sausage...if you are having a square Lorne then that sounds like a doubler to me (no issues with that). Lorne tends to be more peppery than square, but there isn't much in it, I don't think...
Has to be ice cold Irn Bru and ideally 1901...

also found out that haggis is banned in the USA.

A friend of a friend moved to California and wanted to buy some Haggis for a burns supper. Looked in local shops and couldn't find any so started calling various groceries trying to find someone who stocked it. Just as they were about to give up a store on the other side of town said 'yes, they had plenty of haggis'. So he jumped in the car headed over to what turned out to be a pretty basic convenience store and not the foods-of-the-world delicatessen that he thought would stock rare Scottish haggis. Went in, explained he was the guy who'd phoned and the shopkeeper directed him to the aisle with... the baby formula, the pampers, and the Huggies.

Huggies can potentially hold quite a large amount of nutrition after a while. But I honestly think I'd rather get my 100% RDA of vitamin A from a haggis than an old nappy 🙂

I looked it up also. It sounds like it should be an urban myth, but you're (mostly) right. Barr trademarked the name when production restarted after WWII, partly in response to changes to advertising standards but also - possibly mostly? - because "iron brew" had become a generic term and they wanted to stand out.

Does anyone outside Scotland drink it, really?

It was invented in New York in the late 1800s. I had no idea.

Probably 40 years since I tasted tizer and it was nothing like irn bru, made the the same folk, similar colour

All this slagging off Irn bru what the f--k is that dandy lion and burdock taste meant to be? It's like rancid cat spray

Ugh, I'd forgotten about Tizer. I don't like that either.

I do however like dandelion and burdock which is (or was) actually flavoured with dandelion and burdock; and I just discovered whilst fact-checking myself that it originated in the middle ages in Britain. So there.

Guessing the logic behind this is actually that it doesn't give you any iron in your diet. The same happened with milk stout that was marketed as being healthy - the use of the word milk was banned in the 1940s and still is.

Just like there's bugger all iron in Guinness and it certainly isn't good for you.

More relevant info if you’re giving it to a 4yr old:

“Contains a source of Phenylalanine. Sunset Yellow & Ponceau 4R: May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.

Meh. That plus some old fashioned e-number sweeties goes a long way to explaining my youth 🙂

“Contains a source of Phenylalanine.

Not a problem unless you're specifically allergic to it.

Sunset Yellow

Potentially problematic in large doses.

& Ponceau 4R

Banned in the US, somewhat surprisingly.

May have an adverse effect on activity and attention in children.”

"May" is doing some heavy lifting here. This is probably Sunset Yellow again (and the large amounts of sugar in the non-diet version, there's caffeine in it too isn't there?). Sunset Yellow was "linked" (in a JHJ sort of way) to ADHD forever ago but nothing ever came of it AFAIK.

The UK, EU and USA all test this stuff independently, especially if there's any sort of public concerns.

Vimto is merely an anagram.

As for urn-bru?

I get a hint of apples, somewhere.

Still, as others have mentioned, it’s still 100x better than the watered-down drivel that tries to pass as cola.

The caffeine in the extra-strength version if urn-bru is simply off the scale (and popular with foreign students).

Irn Bru is mixed fruit flavour. Many many moons ago i saw an original bottle and it was described on it as mixed fruit. I can't remember which fruits exactly, but it was 1/2 dozen or thereabouts.

If you want to drink something with a weird flavour, just get Dr Pepper instead.

I tried Irn Bru once and found it vile.

Tried it again a couple of years ago, still vile.

Saw it in the shop the other day when hunting for a drink and thought about it... who knows, maybe I'll like it now... tastes change... but bought Dr Pepper instead.

Huggies is about the only thing Irn Bru would win over.
