For me it's anything Harry Potter related, Lord of the Rings and the more recent Star Wars movies.

Matrix series
Godfather series
The Exorcist

... actually, bloody loads. If I look at, say, Oscar winners or top-grossing lists I'm way down

Sound of music and the great escape are the two that usually surprise people

I don't know what is famous so I am not sure what I have or have not seen.
Besides, I have not gone to cinema for many years ... 😮

Oh ya I definitely will not watch anything to do with singing, dancing, music, lousy comedy, biography shite, about other people lives ...

I will watch science fiction, horror, violence, death and destruction but they got to be good ...

The last film I saw at a cinema (other than kids' parties) was

whichever bond movie was released in november 1999
(and I've not done any kids' parties)

still keeping up my claim to fame as not having stepped foot (for any reason) inside a cinema this millenium

Twilight
Hunger games
The Notebook
Anything that involves teenagers in some tween sci-fi setting (Insurgence, Maze Runner baws)

Although I have seen around 10 minutes of the beginnings of these films, I usually grunt then stomp off to read about symbolism in Das Boot from Empire magazine articles. I am an arsey film snob and the first to admit it

I'm not into poor story all gimmick stuff. Jim Cameron was banging on about not doing in your face 3D gimmicks and yet everything I've seen of it is exactly that (okay I have watched the trailer stuff and some documentary stuff about it in 3D but some of that in particular was even stressing the waving stuff into the camera for 3D effect, and that was exactly what I heard Cameron say he didn't want to do).

And... any of the Star Trek reboots. Eye candy and more palatable for an average audience (read - dumbed down / sexed up) they may be, but all I can see is everything that was Star Trek is lost other than the name and the ships. Pissed me off that JJ actually said he didn't really like Star Trek and just wanted to make Star Wars. He was just using it as a vehicle to get the Star Wars job. All I've seen of the Trek reboots makes me a little concerned for Star Wars. More that many will love it if it's all gloss and eye candy but again loses the essence of Star Wars. Then again, he can be no worse than Lucas during his Prequel era 😉 . Just please... no more bloody lens flare!

Oh and used to be a Tarantino fan, but gave up with Kill Bill onwards. The stuff just doesn't appeal to me any more. Only got Kill Bill on DVD and only bothered watching the first part and found that dull anyway.

Don't think I've ever actively avoided a film. I like films. Seems an odd concept to me. Doubly so being proud of it.

As per Cougar I don't actively seeking avoid films but I've no interest in the following which I've never seen, same applies to most Holywood "action" films

Die Hard or any sequels
Fast and Furious or any sequels

Austin Powers.

My Missus bought me the DVD version when she found out.

So far she is nagging me to watch the DVD's for the last 10 or more years.

She now thinks I don't love her as I still didn't watch her gift to me... 😳

Vowed never to watch Titanic, and it's a vow I'm confident I can keep. I've never seen more than 60 seconds of Coronation Street either, not sure if that's linked.

Ditto. However, several come out a week, and I see one a week, tops. Just looking at the list of "Best Picture" Oscar nominees since 2000, I've seen maybe 1/5, and not even all the winners... 🙂

I saw McVicar when it came out. The films will be on the telly
in a few years so why go to the cinema?

+ 1 for Green Mile.

Read the book, simply superb. Don't need to bother seeing the film.

pretty much all of the above actually.....

never seen any godfathers, lord of the rings, harry potter, matrixes, bournes, titanic. never seen a full james bond movie, hate sci-fi so not even seen a minute of any star wars.

i usually find if i start watching a film, no matter how cr@p, id still sort of get into it and have to see how it ends, but just never had any interest to see them.

like the OP never seen a Harry Potter.

couple of years ago i made a resolution to watch a film a day, within reason - pretty much stuck to it for a while, until the emergence of box sets got in the way. but i cant just sit and flick through channels watching any old shite. i have to watch an episode of something im binging or stick a film on. also with working away i go to the cinema quite a bit.

Tend to avoid the Jason Statham type films, action shooters, or owt by Michael Bey, and most sequels.

I have to admit I'd never seen the Godfather series, neither had my wife, until recently. We caught the first one on TV one day and we thought it was amazing, even though it really isn't the sort of film either of us normally watch.

Not seen the Harry Potter films.

I'm a big fan of films, and don't avoid much if anything.

Haven't yet seen:

Metropolis
Citizen Kane
Wild Strawberries
The Third Man
Godfather(s)
Zulu (does he actually say anything about not throwing spears, or not?)

Sound of music
Casablanca (seen a bit)
Gone with the Wind
Godfather (any of them)
Wizard of Oz (seen a bit)
Titanic
Psycho
Scarface
ET

I haven't actively avoided them, but for the more more recent ones you'd need to have been sufficiently interested/old enough when they came out at the cinema. For the older ones you'd need to spend a lot of time sitting in front of the TV looking for something to watch, especially around Christmas (although I suppose Netflix etc. have changed that a bit).

Godfather, ditto Scar Face, and the like (Mafioso/gangster) .

A genre of films that holds no interest.

Zulu (does he actually say anything about not throwing spears, or not?)

No you've got that confused with the film about Italian minis.. the quote from Zulu was about how they were trying to blow the doors off

Zulu (does he actually say anything about not throwing spears, or not?)

think that might have been Man who would be King.

I've never seen the Star Wars films. Meh. Attempted several times, fell asleep both times.

The Usual Suspects. Unfortunately I know who did it and I can't help but think that will spoil it somewhat.
