My Grandma had a cataract op a couple of weeks ago and is now at my mum's for a week, but forgot her eye drops! Does anyone know what she was likely to be given so I can try and get some for her? Thanks

IANAD. Probably something on prescription I'd have thought.

This might vary by where the surgery was done, but a fair bet is chloromphenocol to combat infection dexamethasone antinflamitary, these may be seperate droppers or there may be a combined drop (not really my area am afraid)

Go to your nearest out of hours pharmacy and ask them, they will know what you need and will most likely have it in stock.

wot the hustler said

prob chloramphenicol four times a day for 2wk or so (so may have finished anyway) and dexamethasone (often referred to as maxidex) for 3-4wk, maybe on a decreasing frequency but normally 4x a day til it stops

Most likely drop will be Maxitrol which is a steroid and antibiotic. You will definitely need a prescription. No chance of getting it over the counter

Contact her GP tomorrow they may even have a prescription line, tell them what has happened and ask them to do a new prescription to a pharmacist near you.

Can't give any advice beyond that as never met your Gran so no idea of her medical background.
