Our second child is due in a couple of months and I've been tasked with getting a double buggy. So what had been good for your needs? My son will be 2 and 4 months when the new baby arrives. My wife would prefer a side by side set up so that rules out Phil and teds which seem to get good feedback.

Also it needs to fit in a Golf hatchback.

Side by side buggies are a pain because they're too wide for doors.

We nearly bought a City Jogger, but didn't, as we got an iCandy Pear off the 'Bay for a third of the price, which has been fine. Your gap is the same as ours; baby is 10/12 & Madame has been on a buggy board for most of the last 4/12 too, so it wasn't used as a double for very long anyway.

It fits in an Astra, too. Just.

Bugaboo Donkey if you have you don't mind spending ludicrous amount of money on some bent metal tubes and bits of plastic and rubber tyres.............

My missus tried to make me buy one of those ^^ worth more than my car was!

We got a double having yr and a half ago. Never used it was just too awkward to get through doors and when it was in the boot there was no space for anything else.

Out n About Nipper for us. Side by side may be a pain, but it is pretty narrow for such a beast - but tandem are, we were told, too long and unwieldy.

Second hand on eBay it was very cheap too!

Get a buggy board.
There's 24 months between our kids (+/- 5 hours) and my little girl managed fine on a board - the lot also fitted in the boot of the Golf with loads of room for shopping bags.

Phil and Teds worked well when mine were littl. Good resale too!

Phil and Teds. Great buggy, had a Icandy Apple for the first one but ave had to replace several bit on it so didn't bother going for conversion kit to make it a double.

Ours are 3.5 and 8 months now and usually have the older one walking. However it is handy to have the second space if needed. It isn't really any bigger than the ICandy and was pretty chep off eBay and can see us selling it for the same.

Easy to wheel and quite mobile. Would deffo fit in a Golf. I would try and get the wife to go to a shop and wheel a few about, the doubles I looked at were pretty unwieldy and I knew we wouldn't be using it round town or on pavements much so wasn't concerned with the width of a lot of doubles but still chose the Phil and Ted.

City jogger was awesome. Fits through a standard shop door which is nice.

Phil and reds all day. We had one and pitied the poor sods with side by sides when we went into cafés and they wrestled in the doorway behind us. There's a reason Phil and teds are so popular and it's not because they're cheap.

Phil and Ted vibe.

We found the bigger wheels mean it's rolls more smoothly and much better on pavements and rougher ground. They can carry loads too. They're quite heavy though and don't pack up as small as others but a great bit of kit

We have a Jane powertwin pro. Inline twin buggy. Very light and packs small. Pneumatic tyres and a front disc.
Very capable, sturdy and easy to use.

Our childminder, who's been doing it nearly thirty years uses a Phil & Teds and says it's the best two baby carrier she's used - the only drawback being that they're a bit heavy. I expect she'd know.

Nipper 360... recently redesigned to make it narrower. Ours has seen 3 years of hard graft (twins) and still looks like new

Another Phil and teds vote. Keep tyre pressure topped up and front steerer tube greased though or you'll have a bastard of a time wrestling it round corners with two kids in!

We've got a buggy board for our Phil and teds and find it to be a waste of time, you can't push the buggy without bashing your skins on the board or alternatively walking like you've pissed yourself

Thanks for all the info. Went to the buggy shop today and have gone for the p and t navigator. The side by side just didn't seem as useful especially when only one child would be using it.

And it was much easier to get in the boot.
