I’ve just been down into town to pick up a few odds and sods.  Whenever I do this, there are certain things that I always pick up multiple reserve supplies of, to pop in the freezer for emergencies/whims. You know what I mean… the stuff that you simply can’t do without.

There are a few things, but top of the list is knowing that I’ve got a selection of different sausages, plus decent bacon, black pudding, hash browns.

This is so I that know that on any given weekend morning I can wake up secure in the knowledge I have everything in for a full cooked breakfast, without needing to go out for owt.

What are your freezer essentials then?

Usually some milk and bread.

Muffins

My wife has a very frustrating habit of buying muffins and then not eating them so they end up in the freezer, sit there for a few months then get thrown out because they are taking up space.

Corpses.

Where's my like button?

I'll check my freezer for it.

Cheap air friable Yorkshire puddings for an unhealthy snack.

Everything.

My freezer is always full of random food, almost always in multiples.

I need a responsible adult to sign off on me buying anything more "for stock"

Wait, you can freeze milk?

Madame buys it directly from the dairy in plastic pop bottles, sticks it in the freezer to make yoghurt with.

Chicken dhansak

Veg or chickpea curry

Chilli

Chorizo pasta

Plus some nice meat from local butcher, oven chips for lazy nights and peas.

You're lying.

Perfectly sensible to have lollies in the freezer. Inconceivable that they are still there to days latr.

Brown bananas for banana loaf.

Forgot those. Tons of the buggers. Our local greengrocer either chucks them out once they start looking a bit to grim to leave on the shelf or donates them to us.

I forgot, always a pack of these:

And this:

I keep meaning to eat all the still edible stuff so I can do a defrost, but it never seems to happen.

Ginger, chillies, peas, various meat that I bulk order from a local farm but definitely including sausages, pork belly and and beef mince. There's also always some homegrown or foraged items like berries, wild garlic pesto and mushrooms.

Peas, bakery sliced wholemeal and Low Gi bread, butter, fishfingers and chicken thighs (they taste better than the breast).

Every 6 months we have a clear out and check that there aren't things that have been there too long.
