Wife has an American friend coming over in the new year. They've asked if we want anything bringing over.

Not enough room for a new bike, forks or wheelset and I'm not sure prices are that different right now 9nce you add in the state sales tax.

I was thinking of things that are either hard to find, or the postage makes them too expensive.

Trouble is, I can't think of anything.

Your suggestions please.

In the past, I've asked for Finish Line stanchion lube but I've got a couple of bottles in stock at the moment.

A president who is sensible...a less inward looking-just-in-front-of-their-nose country...far less guns being owned (and used)...

Suspect none.of those will fit in a suitcase though! 😉

I’m after a couple of vinyl albums that are only available in states and the postage is more than the albums so they could bring them for me!

I found there is not much of a price difference for most things anymore.

Plackers dental flossers are a lot cheaper over there though.

I read this a couple of minutes after reading this on the BBC https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-67825635

I'm going over in January, the only thing I can think I need is some hair stuff which is $14 a tub but then £20 for shipping to the UK but free to mainland USA.

I was holding out for an opportunity to get some slickoleum earlier in the year, but caved and bought buzzy's slick honey instead.

Corn tortillas. As common as sliced white bread there, and dirt cheap. Ludicrously expensive here.

Also, Valentina hot sauce. Best purchased on a Mexican supermarket.

Made three meals in one week with them when over there.

Mostly because everything else is more expensive than over here, even “local staples” like peanut butter.

So have brought over things you absolutely can not get here.

S’mores flavoured everything a good shout. And Mexican flavour oddities. We need more of both on our shelves.

My sisters Bill lives out there and they mentioned recently that the savings aren't as great as they once were.

I used to bring back Carharrt workwear. much more robust and cheaper than Carharrt WIP.

Have had a few pairs of Carharrt work trousers and actually worn them for work-work as opposed to sitting at a desk. Bit disappointed. Not very robust, especially compared to a cheap pair of jeans. The knees wore through on one nearly new pair after a day of laying a floor. The other pair I've had longer but recently the fabric just gave up as it was so thin and worn. Pretty crap given 90% of my time was spent in the workshop standing, not crawling around on site.
Won't bother buying again, which is a shame as I liked the cut.

hair stuff which is $14 a tub

You tart. 😉

A trade agreement. I hear there's a Mr Sunak willing to pay good money for one, secondhand, any condition.

Same experience with their work shorts…. Not the knees obviously, but woefully poor quality.

Yep Alpin, Carharrt WIP is what's available in Europe, basically a fashion brand. Different altogther in the US, I've never managed to wear out any of their duck cotton work pants.

See, I looked at a Chris King Dropper 3. $176 Vs £178. The exchange rate is about 0.8 but Americans always list prices without sales tax which is what makes me think there's really not much in it.

Was going to suggest Outbound lights.

Very nice, not a bad price, then £100 postage!  Just cross your fingers and hope you never have a warranty issue....

I have a US work colleague coming over soon, am considering one, or a pair.
