Got a significant one coming up and Mrs J is asking what I want - and I haven't a clue.

Budget of up to around £500 I suppose, hopefully less, possibly more for the right thing.

Things I've considered
1. Watch - already got a seiko automatic that refuses to die, seems pointless getting another just for the sake of it - possibly a second hand decent quality one may be OK.

2. Camera - considering an 550d, but I rarely use the DSLR I have, and It's not something I could keep to remind me of the event...

3. Family portrait - possibly

4. Top quality splitting axe / tools

What else should I be considering? I really can't be arsed, but Mrs J, thinks there should be something.

have the house turned into a massive ball-pond/pit.

redecorate so the kitchen floor is bouncy.

And the thread swings back to the ridiculous again. Sorry geoffj.

Sensible suggestion:

Experiences always trump "things" in my book.

my apologies, i'd agree with deadly that experiences are way better than things.

so the question is now: exactly how sexy do you want your experience to be?

Pepsi and rugby players.

I bought that for my mate once. Can't work out why he was annoyed

An adopted goat that lives somewhere in Africa?

Actually for £500 you could be the proud owner of a small herd of adopted goats

Long weekend away?

I spent about that going to Berlin with the wife? Was brilliant. Didn;t include spending money obviously.

That was a 5 star hotel too.

Man it were brilliant!

I had a camera - Sony A55 for my 40th, which guaranteed won't be a keeper forever. However, its something I wouldn't have normally stretched to, its what you do with it that stays with you forever and it had given me a new hobby. If you already have an unused DSLR though, its s bit of a non starter.
