Not opinions, but in terms of facts/knowledge. So, what's common sense, what knowledge does the majority of people have in common regarding Britain's:

1. Royalty (e.g. its function, names of royalties etc.)
2. Politics (e.g. prime minister, opposition, the different parties and their ideas etc.)
3. Historical monuments (e.g. UNESCO places, symbolism etc.)
4. Nature (e.g. animals, plants and landscapes etc.)
5. History (e.g. Monarchy, WW2, Roman invasion, Middle Ages, Celts, religion etc.)
6. Music (e.g. (past) singers, bands etc.)
7. Literature (e.g. books, folklore etc.)
8. Sports (e.g. Olympic victories, sports Britain has the best players in etc.)
9. Science (e.g. how some physical, chemical or biological things work, discoveries, inventors etc.)
10. Art (e.g. paiting, cinema, philosophy etc.)
11. Demographics (e.g. population, ethnic groups and multiculturalism etc.)
12. Anything else.

5. History (e.g. Monarchy, WW2, Roman invasion, Middle Ages, Celts, religion etc.)

"Invasion" is a highly emotive term, I would prefer to use the term Roman immigration.

I know everything about questions 1-11. I am not sure about 12. My wife, who is also British, knows slightly less about most of those topics.
Why do you ask?

I'd hazard a guess that a good portion of the population already here, and been here for many generations, knows a lot less than is needed to pass the "what you need to know to become a British citizenship test", if such a thing were to exist

At first, as a young child, I knew nothing.

At around age 18-20 I thought I knew everything.

Now, I'm absolutely sure I know nothing.

HTH, toodle-pip.

Is this statistical data that one day Michael Gove will quote shortly prior to a cabinet reshuffle?

I know quite a bit. Does that answer your question?

no - he wants to know what the majority knows, so unless knowing what everyone else knows is included within the bit that you know then no.

Britains Prime Minister is Nigel Clough and his dad is the queen, but he's dead. He lives in Hogwarts with Jeremy Kyle and their son Brooklyn Beckham. Britain was set up as a reaction to the French and is a wholly owned subsidiary of Walmart. What do I win?

Ladles and Jellyspoons,
I come before you,
to stand behind you,
and tell you something,
I know nothing about,
Next Thursday, which is Good Friday,
There will be a mothers meeting,
For fathers only,
Wear your best clothes,
If you haven't any,
And if you can come,
Please stay at home,
Admission free,
Pay at the door,
Take a seat,
And sit on the floor,
It makes no difference where you sit,
The man in the gallery is sure to spit.

Honestly, what you expecting here? That's atleast 12 threads from the off, and many more once we get in to the nitty gritty of it all!

Have you ever used the interweb before? It's difficult enough keeping peoples attention on 1 subject!

There's shit-loads I don't know about my own country, because my memory for facts that are only worth remembering if you have a deep interest in the subject, or do lots of quizzes, is limited.
1000 years or so of British royalty is an awful lot to try to recall, I only did limited amounts at school, because I went for geography rather than history.
As for the OP's list, I really can't be arsed to even think about it, unless there's something in it for me.
So, how much is on offer for the best set of answers?

We had the OP reported for moderation. I'm inclined to file this under "self-policing." (-:

Enjoy it until the OP gets spam-hammered on later posts...

You forgot to mention wild Hagis, the male has short left legs and long right legs, running round the highland mountain in a anti-clockwise direction. The females have short right legs and long left legs and run round the mountains in a clockwise direction.

...I went for geography rather than history.

You didn't miss much British history. We did the wild west and studied Russian / East German communism as it fell apart (which, to be fair, was absolutely fascinating).
