I have my eye on a 1 year old VW Polo - for a fuel efficient run around to and from work.

Registered Jan 11, List today would be £12k dead. Ticket price £8250 (+£95 RFL) at a main VW dealer, 10.5k miles.

No P/X or finance. So it would be a cash deal. I have been out of this game for a long time, so have no clue as to what is realistic, and I know we some self confessed experts on here.

What is people's feel for what is realistic? Let's hope there are not too many VW dealer MTBers on the site tonight

I'd try a punt at £7400 (10% less than asking) and see if they bite.

If you want something that's cheap to run, spend less - as depreciation will be your biggest expense.

br - Not too worried about the depreciation. If I keep it for a few years it won't be too bad (famous last words).

But, I do want something that is still under a manufacturer's 3 year warranty, to be hassle free for a couple of years at least. So not able to spend too much less and get the latest shape Polo.

I'll give my standard answer to this question which is that there is no answer. It all depends on the vehicle in question, your circumstances, time of the sales month etc. Try negotiating with them by asking for a best price rather than them getting a price from you. Or make a low offer, say it's the best you can do and see if they call back. Polo's are not that rare so don't pay over the odds for one and consider playing another dealer with a similar car off against this one to get the best deal (even if it means some travelling to pick it up).
