A V-Tech Kidizoom Twist Camera.
My four-year old loves his - and has taken some nice photos on it.
Got one from ELC last year for our daughter - forget the name, it was red and yellow. Has some built in games as well and has so far proved 'rugged'. 1 year one and she's still using it on a daily basis!
As recommended above - Vtech is the way to go.
I have 2 daughers, 5 and 7 and they both love the Vtech cameras we bought them when they were 4 and still use them now - more importantly they are really robust and have survived a few knocks, bounces down the stairs etc.
I personally wouldn't buy anything less robust for a 3 yr old as accidents will happen and a broken camera will mean a sad little 3 y.o!
our little Terry Richardson is getting a Vtech.. he is going to piss himself with excitement..
He's always used Mrs yunki's battered old C905 phone since he was a year old, but it bit the dust a while back.. he took a few good shots with it but it was useless as a teether..
V-Tech Kidizoom Twist Camera +1
Naff sensor, but the kid loves it.
He also loves my GF1, and (by sheer luck and fast shutter) can take a good snap or two (he's 3!), but that's only with "daddy supervision"!

our 3 year old has a leap pad with a camera, compared to an old vtech we have it's much better for him, lets him play with the pics, put them into story books etc
We bought a £20 with no manual or box Nikon PointnShoot from the Jessops outlet for our kids to use - so far is a great wee thing for them.
+1 for Vtech. It bounces and is pink.
We got ours a nikon s30. Bought on supermarket points- can't remember rrp. Waterproof, shockproof and ok pics. Easy for a 3yr old to use. We got it in black too as she didn't want one that looked like a toy. (pink, blue etc). Small and tough enough to pinch for mtb duties too 🙂
We've had 2 VTechs. Neither lasted more than a couple of months before the software started to freeze up and the mode selector knob became unresponsive.
We are looking for a cheap grown-up's camera this year.
+All the numbers left in the world for the V-Tech.
Seen some good deals on them because all the cool kids now want V-Tech Tablets...

Never had a problem with either of the 2 Vtech's and had them well over a year now. Must have been unlucky as they're pretty bomb proof.
