I know this has been covered before, but wanted to get latest reccos on best front & rear dash cams. After a spate of vandalism on the street my wife parks her car on (5 cars scratched/bashed in one night), I thought it's probably time to invest in a bit of peace of mind - although probably minor.

Ideally looking for:

• Front and rear, for a hatchback

• Can install myself, with somewhat minimal electrical and interior trim skills

• Does some sort of incident monitoring even when car is switched off (bump sensor?)

Ideas?

Lots of cams will do this, but I think what you need is a permanent feed with low battery voltage cut off (so it doesn't run your car battery down). Then put in a big SD card and set it to record permanently.

BlackVue make a feed which does this, you can also get no-name ones on ebay for cheaps.

For reference I have a Nextbasse 522GW and whilst the parking mode is good out of the box, it is not sensitive enough to capture vandalism, and also it takes a moment to activate. Also the built-in battery lasts a day or two, at most (hence the suggestion for a permanent feed from the car battery).

I have a BlackVue which does all that, pro installed by a mate (connected to battery, wires hidden etc) although he said it is very straightforward. Footage seems good (can read numberplates which is the main thing I think) but fortunately not used it in anger yet!
