Will be driving a lot more going to a new job - 45min each way (as opposed to a 5 min cycle I'm currently doing).

There's a tonne of idiots on the road and I'll be driving up and down the freeway. Can someone suggest a sub hundred quid camera? Are rear facing cameras worth getting??

Last I looked, something like the Xiaomi mai seemed to tick a lot of boxes but that was a couple of years ago and i'm guessing tech has improved in that time?

I went through this recently. I bought a Nextbase 322GW.  My Skoda Octavia has a USB-C power socket near the rear view mirror, so with a short lead it makes for a very simple and neat installation which powers up with the ignition. However you can also hardwire it into the battery or use a 12v socket.

The camera is great. Good resolution day and night. There's a battery operated parking mode. Easy to view and download your footage with the app. It's compatible with separate rear view cameras you can add later.

I got mine from Halfords who were doing 20% off if you part exchanged a bit of old kit, dash cam, sat nav etc. I had an ancient 1st gen sat nav the size of a house brick which was headed for the tip so I used that.

There are other cameras in the Nextbase range with more or less features. I picked the 322 as the sweet spot for features I would actually use v price. A bit of pre purchase research suggests they are quite well thought of,  but of course there are loads of other options.

You will need to budget for a good quality 32 or 64GB micro SD card too.

Cheers bud. So many companies all promising the best image etc. Ideally a voice operated record option would be good rather than reaching for a little button!

I’ve got a Garmin Mini in one car and really happy with that. It’s tiny with good quality video and a pretty good app. The Mini 2 has voice control and a few other interesting features. I’ve considered buying a second for the rear.
