You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
The end of the world may be nigh but as a distraction and while I wait for my daughters house purchase to complete (and several months of refurbishment work for me to begin) I thought I would build them some garden furniture in this short period of downtime. I will buy the the materials and I have agreed that she will buy the cushions. I am pretty inexperienced when it comes to soft furnishings so as with all of my important life decisions I am calling on the STW collective to guide me, as well as any other general garden furniture advice. I will of course provide pics once finished....
Just make the furniture comfortable then you don't need the cushions, they won't go damp and rank and they won't require storage 364 days a year?
Good point above. We have a swing seat with a large cushion. The seat, frame, and cushion, take up a large part of the garage from Oct to April. Meanwhile the two wooden benches just live outside 24/7. Maybe a teak oil treatment in the spring.
Perhaps the seats can have inherent waterproofness and pliability like those 3D printed roadie saddles.
Slightly left-field suggestion, but rather than cushions how about just making the seat frame and then using something like this for the base and back which negates the need for a cushion entirely.
I've used it before and it's great. Super strong and doesn't care if it gets wet.
Whatever kind of cushions you get, don't make your sofas and chairs *too* tempting. IYKYK.
Forgo the cushions and lash yourself your naked body with stinging nettles instead, maybe.
Nothing can sufficiently cushion you against the ravages of Putin and Trump but I've heard Next are fairly good.
If you’re building from scratch then I’d recommend designing to accommodate ikea outdoor cushions - way way cheaper than bespoke and entirely adequate
Lead lined ?
They can double up as a line of protection for your cupboard under the stairs nuclear bomb shelter.

Should be safe unless JD Vance is likely to be popping round.
Love the funny replies.
I'm a professional soft furnisher.
Make the actual covers out of upholstery weight fabric. Make sure the pads are covered with netting, otherwise they are tricky to get the covers on and off easily. Use zipping (velcro could be used but doesn't look as nice), then the covers can be washed.
If you feel confident pipe the covers (this isn't easy for a beginner).
Put the zipping into the centre of a border, not by the seam (at the back). If you need any advice on how to to this get in touch with me.
These cushions will take quite a few hours of graft, if you want them to look good.
Thanks for the replies. No intention of making my own so building around an off the shelf option from Ikea or Next sounds like a winner. Cheers.
