You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Looking for a compact digital camera, must take quality pictures, not too concerned about HD movies. Have a budget of up to £150. Current options are:
- Panasonic FS16
- Panasonic FS35 (for more zoom although may go SLR route at later stage)
- Canon Ixus 105
- Casio H5
- Sony Cybershot
What would STW recommend that would best suit my budget?
This isn't meant in a narky way, but it might be worth a search, as there have been a few similar threads over the past few weeks.
Whether they will cater for your exact requirements I'm not sure though.
Go on ebay.de, look for olympusmarket ebay shop and get one of theirs. Uber cheap 🙂
I got an Olympus mju tough water/mud/dustproof camera for £110, although it had no battery or memory card. Still came in very cheap.
From what you've said, the questions are:
a) how much zoom you want
b) how small you need it do be
OK, will do a search.
As for zoom don't want nothing too excessive as that will ultimately mean larger size. I would like something I could easily fit in a pocket. I like the fact with the Panasonic FS 16 that you can increase the zoom length albeit taking photos at 3m pixels.

All it's doing is cropping the images. It's exactly the same as taking a normal image, cropping the middle out of it and viewing it full screen 🙂
My Oly mju tough does that.
There are a million pocketable cameras out there - best thing to do is try them out in a shop and see which one you like the look of. I quite like the Nikon interface because it has all the scene modes right there for you to choose really easily.
However the mju tough has some great features for biking/outdoors including being able to navigate the menus and use it by tapping the sides instead of pressing buttons, which is ace when you have gloves on. Also because it's everything proof you can strap it to your camelbak strap in a holster for super easy access instead of having to clean your hands and unzip it from a pouch.
There's some really good deals on Lumix TZ8's at your price point. 12x optical zoom and HD video.
I started a thread about a week ago on this topic and ultimately I decided on the Nikon s8000 - £130 at argos ATM - 14.1 megapixels - 10x zoom - HD recording. I'll punish you with some shocking photography from todays motoGP. Even in the drizly conditions of today the action shots were still sharp and the still zooms at the practise starts were excellent
