No, I don't want 'antique oak' or 'cherry blossom' or whatever - I just want to seal both a shed and a fence for the winter with something clear (or nearly clear).

It has to be paintable too - too close to stuff to spray.

Would prefer something that penetrates rather than coats (and subsequently peels) too.

Any recommendations?

Ive been using a lot of Sikkens HLS and Filter 7 (coloured treatments) lately and its very good quality. They do an opaque product too:

edit - having re-read your post I see its just for a shed and fence in which case this stuff is way OTT

I like the Sikkens stuff but didn't spot that when looking on their site - thanks for that.

Shall pop down to my local dealers ta 🙂

sadolin do a clear decking/fence product too but it's more like a paint than a soak in.

how about the other brand, cuprinol or ronseal

you could use a coat of Liberon clear deck oil. It does alter the colour of pine though - effect is like wetting it.
