You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
It's time to shake things up and commit to something a bit scary where I feel like I've bitten off more than I can chew - I'm thinking of maybe a 300km or even 400km Audax.
What are you eyeing off that's making you a little nervous?
Would love to be inspired by your physical/sporting/health/mental self-inflected projects/challenges....
A) 1 year without the need of crutches
B) Organise one new bike event (already started)
C) Improve the appearance and usage of Southampton Bike Park (part funded by B)
D) Lose 2.5 stone (hopefully though step E)
E) Actually ride my bike
Run a 1h13.xx half marathon.
turning 40 gracefully.

100 miler
Way of the Roses
Stealth Camper
I'm thinking of doing Iron Cross next September, definitely Roubaix and Tro Bro Leon, maybe Super Enduro B-Road, Gravel Dash, Battle on the Beach, oh - and a new kitchen...
Knock work on the head for six months and go travelling. I haven't got much beyond panicking about that... As far as cycling goes we're doing a couple of three day MTB things in the Andes which should be good.
edit: f7a sport would be nice though
Run a decent half marathon
Run an ultra
Get back to only having two bikes (n-1), and actually race them more
3 stars on all angry birds levels without using power-ups or the big bird thing.
Walk the WHW in 3 days for my 60th
I was thinking this very thing earlier.
Mine are:
Lose 1.5 stone, mainly so can ride with some speed...
La Marmotte if I can get an entry.
That'll do for the moment.
Three peaks (running version). Not really tha big and scary but it's the main goal for the spring and 3 times further than any previous fell race (I've done flat road marathons). Will try to find a few long MTB events too.
Learning to ride a horse to go horseback trekking in the Alpujarras.
expecting jek no2 in the first half of the year, which will be a rainbow baby so all fingers crossed.
Paying for the 2 bikes I bought this year 😆 And the greatest challenge of all, getting decent money for all my 26 inch stuff.
Get below 85kg
Get my partner to learn to ski and want to go again.
Believe it, that may be challenge enough 😉
(and possible persuade her to marry me...)
Learn to swim and compete in a triathlon.
Contemplating C2C road ride in a day.
Next springs challenge will be to ride to the seaside for a paddle.
Following on from this years challenge of riding to the pub for a beer.
Was thinking of setting the target of cycling every single day of the year.
For those contemplating weight loss:

I lost 21 pounds in two months. Bearing in mind, my commute is 200 miles a week...
200 mile ride next may and then Twentyfour 12 solo
I have the Brentwood Half Mara in March that I do every year to keep me honest through the winter months.
The Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 50k as something to build up to in August
Might look for a Tri or two for somewhere in the middle of those dates
Come out of winter the same weight I went in, with my asthma under control.
Some 60-100 mile offroad rides in spring/summer.
Use the 12 hours+ a week that I have been studying for exams this year on top of the day job to...
- spend loads more quality time as a family and
- Ride more
- Do some kind of charity biking event with some big hills and mileages
- Lose at least a couple of stone
- Finish all the half done garden projects
That should see me thorough next year. none individually should be a massive issue, the challenge is balancing them!
(off-topic but agree with above poster that 5:2 fasting works well)
Be in shape to bench 140, press 90 and run a 5 min mile.
Beat my marathon PB (3:09). And a couple more ultras, just not sure which yet. I'll probably do the (local to me) GTP again, and I'd like to do one the spring ones in the Canaries.
booking the week of the 28th of may off work and riding my bike solidly for a week i would hope.....
Lots of long distance touring (on and offroad )culminating with the LEL Audax in 2017 .

Loose 2 stone by next summer.
Beat my shocking Ride London 100 time from this year (subject to me getting a ballot place)
Complete the Dunwich Dynamo.
Ride more than this year (going to end up at about 2000 miles for 2015)
1) Hold my marriage together
2) if 1 == TRUE
{
try and get [wife] pregnant and carry the child to term (or at least to more than a survivable number of weeks)
}
3) Ride more, maybe even get fit enough to go to BPW, Snowdonia and some of the other fun/nice places
4) Try and get my running back up to half marathon level
5) Learn to swim properly and maybe to a triathlon
Do at least one bivi/camp per month (again). I've managed this in previous years but somehow got lazy this year.
To crack 50 continuous pull ups, currently at 45 in a minute, just had inguinal hernia surgery, so a bit of a set back and then nail the one arm pull up and to do an iron cross.
Lose more lard and change career/find a new job.
Find a new job (being made redundant, so no choice).
Build a proper shed type thing with power and naked dancing girls
Cycle Malin head to mizen head (irish lejog)

Ride to the coast from home

Save more money and stop buying shit I don't need (Including bike stuff)
Have enough motivation to seek alternative employment
See more sunsets and sunrises
Although hampered by worsening health I would love to cycle a modest route that can be broken down into chunks and spread out over the year. Very keen on following one of the many ancient trackways in Wessex so an evening with maps spread out on the floor, beer in hand plus rock on the hifi should enable me to formulate a plan.
TransPortugal
Weird ... just sorting out my boyz challenge this year.... nothing that taxing or extreme, they wanted to do the 3 peaks but I said it was too much sitting in the back of a motor! So we are going to do the English version... Scafell Pike, Hellvelyn and Skiddaw in a day.... should be good on the basis that the only hill they've ever been up is Gants Hill.
Me ... lots of things are taking my fancy, I must pin something down... But defo want to do more microadventures... things like swimming in the local river or jumping on a train and running/cycling home or maybe camp out one night in a local but quiet spot ... ??
I'm going to cycle less. 😀
This years been very busy riding so next year I'm picking some prestige events to ride, shall keep my fitness up just enough to do me justice but that's probably it TBH. There are a few Gran Fondo events over in the east Dolomites which will be completed with some vigour, and mates, then I intend to spend a month in the Vosges with the roadie on my own.
The main sporting challenge for me is to go Surf Paddleboarding more. I've missed arsing around with surfy mates and they've missed me it seems. So we're just planning a trip per month over a long weekend, just mates, boards, burgers, beer and no doubt bare bottoms.
Looking forward to it makes me smile.
Sounds like a great plan doncha think.
😀
Get junior riding by 31st december 2016 (at least on a balance bike).

Ride the ridgeway, South Downs way and the bit inbetween over a few days next summer.
After our walk of 62 miles in 24 hours I'm looking forward to next year's challenge. Can't give any details yet but it's going to be big.
Stay off the fags.
Lose a stone.
Enter (and finish) Epic Cymru.
Conquer The Cliff at Aberystwyth - managed to wimp out every year so far and I ain't getting any younger - gotta nail that sucker. Consti! I'm coming for ya! 😈
after doing two bike packing trips this year then hopefully more of the same. Can't/Haven't decided what yet.
Did the trans Cambrian in the summer & just done the lakeland 200.
Want to pluck up courage to enter the Rovaniemi 150 but common sense says get some winter riding experience here first so that may get put off till 2017.
[s]I'm going to try to stick with just the bikes I have now.[/s]
Edit: I suspect that's going to be harder than it sounds.
Edit Edit: I'm going to try to stick with just the bike's that I have on January 1st
That sounds better.
Riding wise, to improve my knee situation, which is stopping me from any 20 mile plus rides.
Then a new bike and some technical coaching and visits to trail centres in Wales and Scotland.
A long run and several long bike rides.
A court battle.
After major surgery to my spine 12 months ago, I've managed this year to get back to the level of fitness I was at before the op. I also managed to ride The Beast at Hope on my HT, without dabbing for the first time.
Next year I'd like to do more 100-mile + road rides, improve my MTB confidence and perhaps take part in a fundraising event for a mental health charity.
Bike wise, Just bettering my position in the regional xc series, do a few of the nationals too.
Teaching myself to be able to drink more than three and a half pints without slurring.

Done a 100k, so do a 100 miler, I guess.
Ride the MTB more/wean myself off the road addiction.

I'm struggling to think of a way to fund a little two month adventure I'd like to go next summer but it's not quite given up on yet.

ETA Oh yeah, and replastering the bedroom ceiling, insulating the roof, clearing the [s]dump[/s] spare room so it's fit for a small human, investigating some sort of heating for the house in general, installing a functioning bathroom and removing any sharp objects left over from half finished DIY projects in the past. All down to item 2. above.
19 XC races, Battle on the Beach, Bontrager 24/12 and Torq in your sleep.
That'll do for now.
Qualify for ironman 70.3 world champs. Longest of a long shot, but we need dreams to aspire to.
Get Fitter
Start a masters next September in Statistics and start my Level 1 CFA in January. Biotech doesn't pay well enough.
Cut down on cake a bit (probably impossible).
Visit Saccades shed with the dancing girls.
Just been told I'm running a 10k in April 🙄
find a job
then try Cyclocross racing
Good luck pz_steve!
Survive the team triathlon I've been volunteered for in September with a decent 40km time.
Drop a couple of stone to improve my climbing and sprinting (may be related to the thing above).
Actually try out (rather than just try out in my head) a couple of ideas for 'sideline' businesses - one bike-related, one in education.
Get out of the bottom 10% in my age group at Ard Rock assuming I get an entry (I guess not picking up a virus the day before might help this time round).

Vuelta Stage 11 from this year with the 5000m of climbing. Already booked a week in Andorra ready to do it

Working out how to buy a Cannodale Trigger without the wife noticing.
Grand Raid in Switzerland and try and get up at the sharp end (or just not the back..) I'm actually going to train for this year.
Plus a few other uk endurance mtb events. This plan entirely revolves around a lower than usual mince pie consumption over the next 2 months which is always tricky!
Trans Continental, if I get a place and MrsFla says yes, although I will prob be a gibbering wreck after the first 24hrs and come home ......
BB200 - try and finish this one ......
Cycle to each of the 135 Yorkshire Water Reservoirs from home.
Learn to Swim properly
100mile road ride
Maybe another crack at the transcontinental race. If not then the 1205km highlands and islands audax.
The highlands and islands audax is my backup if Mrs Fla says no
