You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I've decided to move away from my company's car scheme and not go with another lease car. I do about 6,000 miles a year at most, so its worth me taking the allowance, avoiding the BIK tax, and getting something abit more "interesting".
I though i'd ask here and see what the thoughts were about what to get, it needs to have 4 seats and has to be my main car (i'd love a Unimog but not overly practical), but other than that im open to suggestions So far ive looked at:
04 Porsche 911 996
Various BMWs
Fire away..... Thanks.
Half a dozen Octavia VRS'.
Any qualifying criteria for the car allowance? e.g. less than 5 years old?
Check there are no rules on the scheme. On mine if I take the cash the car must be <5yrs old and under 100k miles.
No, there arent any rules as such, i dont get a car because i "need" one for my job, its classed as a reward.
Edit: re-read the op properly, although I never knew about 6k rule on not attracting BIK.
New Nissan Pulsar with the turbo engine. Took one out the other day and it's awesome!
I would pay income tax on the allowance, but i wouldn't be paying BIK tax as im not taking a company car.
6000 miles a year? Not diesel then
Had a similar situation, ended up with a M135i, impressive to drive, quick and fun but not ridiculous to do a decent journey in but don't quite feel the 'love' for it. Half wished I'd bought a Cayman or poss a 911 (all friends with them on similar mileages have worked out about £20 a mile). Looked at 350z, too many lads (or even older guys than me), same with scoobies and evos, 968s (they have gone up since), quick Audis (as expensive as 911 say mates who mostly had the 911s above), R32s, again impressive but still a Golf. Really wished I'd bought the Beamer Z3m coupe, think it would have been what I hoped this (impressive as it is) would be. I also like the Z4 Coupe but these last two are both two seaters.
And since doing this I have run a 500 notes Micra as my town and winter car - it is more fun than it has any right to be! And keeps the other out of shopping car parks and off winter roads. Cheap as chips so reckon this two car deal costs less etc..

Depends how it's done. Lots of short trips that's correct. Fewer, long trips would be fine with a diesel.
