So we are going away for a family holiday over the Christmas week to Centreparcs. There are 2 groups of us going, our family being myself, partner, mum, dad, brother and my at the time 6 month old daughter. The 2nd group being friends of ours, being him, her and their 3 kids. So that's 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8...9 bikes, possibly 10 if we buy mum a bike for Centreparcs. Also the pushchair for my daughter + a tag-along trailer for me to drag her around in (sounds harsh...) and any presents and clothing for the week for the 2 groups...

Between us we have 1 VW people carrier with 7 seats, 53 plate I think, not sure which model. An Audi Q5 12 plate (which is luckily the car I have the pleasure of driving for the week...:D) and a 12 plate VW transporter. The question is, are we gonna struggle for space with these 3 vehicles or should we be looking at 4 vehicles?

You ain't going to get that lot in two vehicles. Work out the cost of renting bikes there against taking extra vehicles ? weather might be rubbish and you won't be out on bikes anyway 🙁

taxi25 - I suggested to dad just now about taking the pedals off all the bikes, surely we can fit 10 bikes in a transporter without pedals? 🙁

also taxi25 you cannot drive around Centreparcs once arrival time has passed so it's either walk, cycle or catch the tram lol. Tram is usually busy too...

Without people no probs, with 7 people not so sure. Do you have a towbar ? You could rent a trailer.

If you take the pedals off that many bikes, PUT EACH PAIR IN A LITTLE BAG or you will be spending half the holiday sorting them out left & right...

Good idea Rachel, I never even thought of that lol.

taxi25 - we have the people carrier and Audi 4x4 to transport people, it's just fitting all the bikes into 1 transporter i'm questioning...>.<

Got you, pedals off, h/bars turned flat you should breaze it 😀 I've got a t4 campervan, before the conversion you could get loads in there stacked up. Get some cardboard sheets to put btwn bikes to pack them out a bit.

We regularly take seven people, seven bikes and luggage in a LWB transporter to the alps.

The Transporter is the van of choice at Silverfish and we always aim for eight bikes across the back. That's 8 side by side, with packing between them across the width of the van.
It is, of course, possible to get many more in but 8 is in nicely without taking wheels out and without packing them in so much they get damaged.

We got 9 bikes & 9 people squashed in a transporter last week for an uplift evening.
I wouldn't take my bike to centre parks though, they are just left outside all day with hundreds of others.

taxi25 - we got there in the end ^.^

therag - luckily my bike is only a £400 hardrock and will likely be dragged into the hallway after everyone has walked through after locking theirs up outside anyways. Rest of the familys bikes are all sub £150 from Halfords so I should be ok :p

I have managed 11 downhill bikes and full race kit including spares and tyres in a swb T4 plus 3 people up front. Took some careful packing but it's amazing what you can get in with pedals and front wheel off and bars spun!

And dont waste the space above the bikes if they are put in vertically. More wil go on top, horizontally with padding. Dont also forget to stop them moving forwards if you brake sharpish...

Pics when you have done it...

I think some of the team are now debating renting bikes, but there is still a minimum of 6 bikes going atm I think + a baby trailer and pushchair...
