Four of us will be in Amsterdam this weekend. We're all married and in jobs which require regular drug testing, so were going to be limited in the Red Light District.
Having googled what to do in Amsterdam has left me feeling a bit flat (pardon the pun) google is not throwing much in the mix.
Anybody got any suggestions?
We're not scared of boozing, motorcycle gangs or pimps! We like anything odd or quirky, I like buying antiques and things on my travels.

We will be going Anne Franks House ar some point as we're ok with a bit of history.
Any other ideas, but not art galleries?

Anne franks is good. Be ready for the queue though. Heinekin factory tour? Hire a boat and go along the canals?

Cocaine is out of the system within a couple of days and as long as you wear protection you won't bring anything back.

Ok so as much as you'd like to do the above, amsterdam has loads of other great things to do that are fairly trouble free.

Museums, galleries, clubs, restaurants and bars. You can hire pedalos and bicycles to get around, much more fun than public transport.

The Rijksmuseum has recently re-opened that will be worth a visit although will include art in it (as do alot of the other museums). Dutch resistance museum is pretty good.

If you like football you could go and see Ajax if they are playing at home.

Hire bikes and go for a cycle about the place go on a boat trip etc

I was working in Amsterdam last week, one of my collegues went to the Sex Museum, I went to the Anne Frank house.

He was very disappointed with what his 4 Euros got him.

Anyone near or on railways get drugs and alcohol tested. People are often fired, including the project manager who it transpired had a prolific cocaine problem.

I went on a stag do there and recently a work trip - neither trip required anything dodgy to have a good time.

Loads of great bars and clubs to go to. We went go-karting on the stag do (which was about 40 mins away by taxi) which was good.

I started this thread a while back and it had some useful suggestions

http://singletrackmag.com/forum/topic/amsterdam-bar-and-restaurant-recommendations

In De Wildeman was my favourite bar by far (thanks CFH) - rough (cosmetically rather than getting beaten up...) and ready but good beer and cheap.

I have only been once. Best day was spent touring the canals in a pedalo. Visit to a cafe earlier may or may not have helped

There is a lot to do culturally, as well as getting stacked on Dutch beer and Jenever!!
If it takes your fancy, there are live sex shows in a couple of places along the Red Light drag. Never been so I can't recommend!
Brown bars for drinking in, Indonesian cuisine, trip out to Den Haag, or the beaches in the west.
Anne Franks House - but get up early. And don't write is the memorial book "HiddenGirlTrackWorld: I think she would have been a STWer".
The art museums are good
The Sex Museam is crap - and has very sticky floors and lots of pictures by Tom of Finland.
Eat krokketes from Van Dobbins
And go clubbing - loads of hard house /techno clubs ...
Boat trips around the canals, boat trips around the harbour.

pretend to be american and order drinks and food in the accent. Extra points if you speak to an american in accent.

We stayed there for a few days. Beautiful and lovely place. The Sex-bit is over-stated for its actual content on the ground.

Question, why would four blokes go to Amsterdam? Could be worse (i.e. Paris) though.

If you have to come on t'internet to ask a bunch of cyclists (many of whom wear lycra) what to do on a weekend in Amsterdam with 4 blokes, I've got to say... don't go, stay at home with mummy, she'll look after you, maybe have your friends round for a sleep over..

Just having a wander round the red light district (without partaking) is amusing in the evening.

I went for work and had a wander round with my boss. Was shocked/amused watching a British Mum and Dad try and talk their (late teenage) son in to visiting a lady, while their daughter acted extremely disgusted. Stay classy people 😆

The torture museum is a interesting in a bit of a morbid sense, and the cannabis museum is good fun, well, it was on shrooms anyway, me and two friends spent about an hour in there laughing at a display that the card described as "A Bunch of Joints".
I didn't think the sex shows were that good, sitting on hard wooden benches watching two folk go at it isn't much fun.
+1 for hiring a bike and riding round for an explore.

For me it was utterly depressing. Seeing women behind windows, the glimpse of their bed behind, the scene.

Torture museum is going to be high on the list. See this is why I had to ask a load of Lycra wearing cyclists on the Internet.....when I googled this morning on things to do in Amsterdam not one of the tourist sites suggested a Torture museum. Thank you dabble 😀

Let's be fair Hora; they should really be paying you for just a glimpse of the magnificent penis.
