Although I hated my old Sony mobile towards the end of it's life, the camera was quite decent. My new one, not so good. I particularly liked the scenes function of the old one, night time, party, fluorescent light etc. pre-set exposures and shutter with some basic filtering I suppose.
Does anyone have a particularly good aftermarket camera app, even if it means paying a few quid? Tried Open Camera but it didn't seem to control the flash properly. Would Instagram function as a camera?

Maybe not erxact what you're after (no preset 'scene' modes), but a stonking camera app.
Instagram can function as a camera but not very well imo. I'm using camera FV5 and really like the results, although I'm not thrilled by the actual interface.
Thanks gents, impressive for sure - but looks a bit complicated. I'm no photographer and while all those options look like they'd give brilliant results, only if you know how to apply them.
For me, that's the beauty of scenes, 75% of the performance with 0% of the knowledge.
