Looking for a compact, warm, full length sleepmat that doesn't cost a fortune.
Northern Scotland, so tends to be a bit nippy!
Suggestions please 🙂
Alpkit airo 180 or if your budget stretches Exped synmat or downmat.
That's a good start, as the Alpkit airo 180 was top of my list so far.
Hyalite Peak Elite AC
Alpkit Airo 180. Good balance of pack size and weight. I was amazed how warm it was.
Not sure if they've upped the QC but of the 2 Alpkit matts I had they both punctured at the seam pretty quickly, the Thermo-rest I've had for the past couple of years has been fine, I doubt I'd buy another of there's.
Shame as I've brought and used a lot of there kit, sleeping bags, down jackets, spoons, pegs, everythings been faultless, the jacket must be 5 years old and has only leaked a couple of feathers, fantastic kit, maybe just not the mats for me.
Have you a Go Outdoors near you? They've a few different Thermarest ones for around half-price. Maybe above your budget but for anyone else out there, they're selling full-length Neoairs for £65 or £50 for smalls!
I'm a bit old fashioned and still use the old closed cell foam Karrimat; incredibly simple and usefull bit of kit. Easily carried, can be wrapped around other kit, won't puncture, good insulation, can double as a sit mat or even a windshield. And don't cost a fortune (I know Karrimat no longer exists as a brand but Beacon and others are available).
I have old, old Decathlon mat and extra bit of Karrimat should the temperature threaten below zero or frozen ground (quite often then...) - means my old ME down bag actually works reet well. It amazes me how much heat is lost downwards normally.
I've got a Highlander Thermalight (Comfort)
It's comfy and warm, but not that light. I don't mind the compromise.
