Looking for some tips for new beer to try... any recommendations?
Obviously online retailers need to be decent.. I've been stung a couple of times in the past with mis-information.
I find it the perfect accompaniment to my afternoons spent shouting at buses
in about a week, will be drinking my own - brewed with our own hops! 😋
might help a bit if you say what you like, the beer gamut is verrrrrrrrrrrry wide these days 😃
also whether you want craft/local (if so, where?) or are happy to drink macro-global-corporate-piss

Very very very nice (for bottles). Unfortunately didn't get time to have a pint or two in the Square though.

Was in Pembrokeshire last week, didn't make it to Caffle but did get to the Bluestone brewery, was very impressed! They're doing their GH this week.

That said, not just shilling for him, they're also really nice beers. I'm normally more of a fan of darker stuff, but these are good lighter beers. Angry Sheep is a lovely lighter session lager, for a start...

Just had a housewarming last weekend so, mainly these:
Vocation, Life & Death, 330ml can into a pint glass and topped up with Lemonade.
Another recommendation for Three Acre Brewery as per Spannermonkey above. My local brewery and pub. A small cask of Hazy Pale for Autumn and Porter for the xmas holidays goes down well in our house.

*edit ^ Purple Moose Elderflower is a fine ale. Recently tried their Plum Porter because Elderflower not on. Ended up having 3 porters before personal besting (single-speed) the Mawddach Trail 😊 Amazing stuff and surprisingly moreish.

As massively unhip as I know it is, I'm currently enjoying a few tins of Abbot Ale. It makes a nice, rich, malty change from the ubiquity of pale/golden/IPA stuff that seems to be pretty much all you can get on draught these days.
Does low alcohol count? Been drinking tins of Adnam’s Ghost Ship 0.5% like water this week. (That wasn’y a set up for some wag, btw 🙂)
Also tried a Guinness 0.0 recently - was pleasantly surprised after the second one hit the palate (the first seemed too sweet). By far the most full bodied zero alcohol drink I’ve ever tried. As far as ales go the Bristol Beer Factory low alcohol offering (Clear Head) has been the best by far IMO/E
I’ll see if I can order that direct from Purple Moose, see how it compares to Titanic’s Plum Porter

I've been all over the Bellfield and cheddar ales lately. I've got coeliac disease so the fact that their gluten free is indistinguishable from normal beer is awesome, but also, it's just really good beer. Got a case of crown and glory and a case of belfield's 80 and daft days to work through
But also a load of gf stella, because sometimes you just want to have a barbeque and fight your neighbour.

Just moved house and the local Tesco stocks La Chouffe which is by far my fave Belgian beer. Had one tonight to celebrate the end of a tricky exam today.
Augustiner... Obviously, because Munich.
Reutberger Hell because our street is named after the monastery there... It's nice to drink and has a nice beer garden with a view of the alps.
Punk Squirrel IPA.
Murk Life balance is nice. I usually buy a few at Kings Cross for the train ride home.

I had a few cans of Hobgoblin Gold at the weekend - they went down well. (possibly a bit bland compared to some, but were quite easy drinking)
Working round various breweries that deliver.
Currently it's Hawkshead. Wheat beer, Gold and session ipa. No booze on a school night but I'll enjoy a couple with a curry after tomorrow's run.
I find a lot of the lesser known beers to be too much of a gamble so I stick with
Purity
Abbott
Hook Norton
Theakstons
London Pride

Not sure about Special Brew, think it needs a hint of Citra to give it a clean finish 😉
Supermarkets are definitely upping their game. Any of the Morrisons in North Yorkshire are stocking North Brew stuff, which is massive win to go with my roll du-sausage.
Why so hard to get beer below or close to 4% ABV, sometimes you want a couple, even on a school night. In my youth, Newcastle Brown Ale was regarded as looney juice as it was stronger than average, but is "just" 4.7%. I do like the Belgians and wheat beers on occasion, but the whole US IPA and sours thing does nothing for me. Banks's Amber Bitter is my standby, then I'll go sample a few wildcards if we're having a do.

Session IPAs are usually close to 4% - Brewdog Dead Pony Club, Beavertown Neck Oil, Mondo Little Victories, Vocation Heart and Soul or Life and Death Session Edition. Ideal for a school night. I've also found that the Flavourly mixed cases are all pretty much session strength - strongest in this case is 4.8%, most are less.
Had a bottle of Lidl Porter last night (branded as Hatherwood?), it was really quite good.

I’m sure it’s fine, they know how to make beer, but it’s basically OEM beer punted out in a discount supermarket, it’ll be made to hit a price point and general flavour profile, basically the exact opposite of craftsmanship 😀branded as Hatherwood
yes, supporting local breweries is always favourite over generic supermarket piss! Most real-ale style pubs will do takeaway, I’m sure your local brewery will do delivery and/or collection too (since Covid they pretty much all do now!)but less choice in the supermarkets. Try looking. Because of tax, 3.8-4.2abv is far more common, 4.8is on the higher end. Wadworth’s 6X which is a staple of one of our oldest local breweries, used to be 5.0abv, but dropped down from that ages ago, in fact it’s now 4.1, 4.3 in cans and bottles.
They do a 6X Gold, which is 4.5, Bishop’s Tipple, which is 5.0, Horizon, which is 4.0, IPA which is 3.6, Swordfish which is 5.0, and Old Timer, which is 5.8!
Lots of choice, from just one of many breweries local to me, there’s even one about a couple of hundred metres from my regular pub in Melksham.

Erm, I wasn't fooled and I just wanted a nice beer while watching TV - which this was.
The bottled IPA they make for Lidl is also really nice and I'll continue to buy it, ta.
