Physio won't let me ride my MTB until the knee surgeon says OK so I'm riding my road bike (to the pub and back, about 20 miles). The bar tape is starting to get tatty. It's the first road bike I've had since the 1970s so I've got no idea what bar tape is good.
So, what bar tape for an old bloke who wants a comfortable ride to the pub?
Big fan of this, they do it in different thicknesses, this being the most plush
Deda, Fizik, or whatever polyurethane stuff is functional. I have some Supacaz on my nice bike and it’s satisfyingly squishy but probably not worth the extra. My next set is going to be cork for a change.
Impressed with the stuff from Decathlon for a tenner.... The foam wrap.
It's good. Repels water. Comfy. Not sticky.
Cinelli's gel cork handle bar tape is comfortable, cheap and very easy to wrap,
Prime's bar tape comes in a mix of thickness, is tacky and well priced,
and whilst not the thickest Fizik's temps microtex bondcush soft bar tape has a nice feel if you don't wear gloves,
I like the thickest lizard skins tape (3.2mm?) with gel padding underneath.
Not cheap, but comfy
just put whatever bar tape is cheapest on top of whats on there already? double thickness
Clarks silicone bar tape. £10
Very comfy
Cinelli cork is my go to. Find it just as cushioned as LizardSkins, feels nicer against the skin and wears much slower. And half the price.
