I'm blowing all my Nectar points on one of these because 1: I like a nice VaT and 2: I've been wondering what all the fuss is about...

People starting threads in the wrong forum and then immediately reposting in the right one.

Oh, and there's always some scrooge who comes along and says it means nothing to them.

😉

Seem to recall I said something like "2 weeks extra paid holiday! Plus my little brother's unexpectedly in the country so we'll have a proper family christmas, not the same without him.

So woo! Christmas!

time off with family and bike rides in the cold.
We're taking our nearly 3yr old girl on a santa train, the staff and station all done up in Victorian gear, entertainers on the platform. Then a steam train ride through the country, mince pie and sherry/port for the adults and the big man comes through the train to spend time with the kids as we puff through the countryside. Everyone's happy and it's a magical time.

Traditional slow cyclebikeride past the standstill shopping traffic. Schadenfreude doesn't get better than this. [/clarkson]

+ Watching my 1 year old nephew destroy winterval trees in sheer joyful methodical curiousity.

I agree with the rebranding, god and jesus is all baloney, winterval sounds good to me. Just because it all started with Christ, doesn't mean it has to continue as such. How about 'crismas'?

Not knowing what I'm working Christmas and New Year until the Monday beforehand

No doubt be working and will be very busy, then have to hear/read how much a wonderful time everyone is having (whilst tucking in to my reheated dinner)

Will get no thanks from my employers

People arranging rides/drinks/meals that I can't attend due to work

But, you know what I'm looking forward to most of all this Christmas? Being single and lonely, no, there's no better time of year for it

Meh.

I've nothing against the rebranding, it's just that winterval sounds so bloody stupid.

I've always liked Yuletide:

Scholars have connected the celebration to the Wild Hunt, the god Odin and the pagan Anglo-Saxon Modranicht

sounds much more exciting than shepherds and mangers.

And sounds less like marketing speech than Winterval.

Rebranding sucks. All this Christmas hype, new fangled religions taking over... Hope you all enjoy Yuletide 😉

Just because it all started with Christ

No it didn't! It's really the winter solstice festival (or at least the middle of it). Think about how much stuff is not Christian. Holly, ivy, misletoe, Christmas trees, Santa.. basically all of it!

And for another "same topic" troll, quite well expressed and subtle too. Still it's been a few days, even weeks since the last one!

Anyway two wonderful services already (early end of term this week) have got me off to a good start!!!

'Winterval' sounds like a special edition sufferfest vid.

Turbo 'till you chunder whilst you watch snowy stuff instead of summery stuff.

edit - what I'll be doing is kiddie/family stuff, some riding, a locals social road ride, no doubt a bit of work, days out and some diy.

We're renting a cottage in mid Wales with a few friends for a few days over New Year. Christmas the last few years seems to be more work than holiday, so I'm already looking forward to that being cut short in favour of a few days of being out in the hills in the day and some good food and a few whiskeys in the evenings.

Xmas troll feeding:

I'm rather surprised at Woppit on this. I quite like the fact that Christmas for most now has absolutely nothing to do with the church. For me that's progres. As such, I'm happy to have it called Christmas just to remind us how far we've come 😉

Back on topic, some time off work, good food, time with family, hopefully some riding and new kit.

Pigs in blankets, as above, main perk of xmas, I survive on them almost exclusively over the festive season.....

Oh, and this year I've got 20 continuous days off work, so hoping to get lots done!
