You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
I know there's a few closet snipers on here with various PCP rifles.
Let's hear from the pistoleers this time. What do you shoot?
MY current collection:
BSA Scorpion .22 cal. circa 1990.
Smith & Wesson Model 79G .177 CO2 powered from about 1986 (mint condition)
Brocock Atomic Super 6 .177 PCP with holo sight and moderator.
Ah yes, the Feinwerkbau 65, fond memories...
A webbly tempest. Rifles are where it is at for me though
Memories of being a kid playing war with Diana SP50s and Gats loaded with green elderberries 😯 wow did they hurt. No elf und safety in them days.
No pistols, but rifles yes.
BSA Scorpion pcp
Gamo 1000
a cheap no name springer with steel sights which gets used loads as it's simple and easy!
Webley Hurricane pistol and a BSA lightning xl tactical rifle for me.
No pistols, but a few air rifles including my fav - a Weihrauch HW55 Target (although I've a scope on mine).
Westlake S2 .177 oh yeah...
Gonna give it a tune up and see what I can get out of it, was only bought as a prop years ago so nothing to lose.
Ah I wonder if you are the Derek Starfish they keep confusing me with..

I have one like this, pump action, takes ages to reload, it has a silencer and scope but I dropped it once and the silencer kind of bent the barrel I think, it's not that accurate these days.
Webley Premiers and Seniors, BSA Scorpion, some funny little break actions FWB's and a Crossman like Derek's above. Crossman great fun for rats as it's near silent.
Rifles are a Milbro G40 which I had for my 12th birthday 40 years ago, HW80 K, Several pre war BSAs, something like a Quackenbush but not marked, something un-named but very pre war in .25
Can you legally take a .22 into the woods and off the odd rabbit still?
Not without permission

From the rabbit?
We've still got a couple of my dad's in the attic, he was always too scared to get them out with 3 homicidal kids in the house 🙂 A Webley and a BSA breakbarrel rifle I think. I suppose there's a fair chance we'll need a licence for those if the scottish air weapons bill passes.
Myself, I have one of these most dangerous of beasts
So you have kept your dads dead rabbits in the loft!
😀
How dare you do the same joke to me that I did to someone else! You're a port heid.
I used to have a webbley hurricane, i loved it but i moved to a flat and no longer had somewhere to shoot it. 🙁
When I was a kid I had a Webley Junior with a retrofitted Ford Escort clutch spring and I made wooden grips. It was ridiculously inaccurate.
These bad boys

Got rid of my Weihrauch HK 97t a while back as since the kids have been a bit older I didn't really want to have to keep explaining why daddy had a proper rifle and their nerf guns kept getting taken away from them after shooting each other in the head.
Give it a couple more years though and I'll be getting another plus one for the kids to go target shooting with
natrix - a nice range there apart from top right Chinese rot. Love the Rekord Jumbo. Is it a deluxe? I had a Nemesis. It was one of the most accurate pistols I've ever owned.
Can anyone recommend a cheap but decent air pistol just to shoot targets with please? Nothing serious and no live quarry, just as an alternative to tormenting the cat or the wife.
Ta!
Icj - somebody's cheap could be £30, another's £300.
What's your budget?
Fair point, I should have thought about that! Sub £100 would keep it under the budgetary committee's threshold I should think. Is that doable?
A Crosman Medalist in .177 calibre.
It's a manual pneumatic, charged by multiple strokes of the forend, so variable power. Three pumps for 6m paper target or 10 for shredding tin cans at 25m. Lots of after market custom bits to bling it up over time where spends allow! No recoil either so accuracy is very good.
Can be had new for £89.95.
Gamo Compact? Good enough to compete with and around £100 second hand.
Thanks both. I'm not sure I know enough to feel confident buying secondhand at the moment, but equally am struggling to find the Crosman new anywhere 😕
The Crosman can be found at TJ&J McAvoys (Wigan) £97.50
and Blackpool Air Rifles
I have a GAT.
power and accuracy;-)

What's wrong with the Westlake? Granted they aren't the best assembled in the world but for the price of a few sheets of wet and dry and a tinnie for a spring sleeve they work well enough after a strip, clean and polish.
They are what they are but for the money they do the job well enough.
Seriously?
It's a manual pneumatic, charged by multiple strokes of the forend
I presume that's replying to me?
If you have to charge it with "multiple strokes" you're clearly doing something wrong, it's a simple break barrel.
Again, what's wrong with that?
Isn't the Crosman pistol a pump up pneumatic rather than a gas piston/spring break barrel, therefore needs "multiple strokes"?
Apologies, I know nothing of such matters, it merely tickled me as a phrase.
Love the Rekord Jumbo. Is it a deluxe?
Sadly not.
I have an Air Arms S200 Mk1, great for ratting in the garden.
Ah I see, I understand now!
Wembley Hurricane and Tempest - cracking little " Plinkers" 😆
Several Steyr LPs due to two of my kids being involved with the Junior GB Pistol squad.
I have a near mint HW45 pistol. It's nearly as heavy as some air rifles.
And an equally mint Air Arms Prosport rifle.
The pistol is louder than the rifle.
Webely Tempest .22 & Crossman Classic 1377, Also got some rifles & shotguns.
If your after a good cheap gun try THIS for an awesome price on the Crossman classic delivered to the UK.

Do they still run the junior squad out of the range at Bedford? I was in the junior squad development group around 87' to '90. Was spotted at an LNER shoot at Chesterfied and invited to join. Turned up at Bedford with my Daisy Powerline 717 and cheapo Gamo wadcutters, which got s****ed at, until they put it in the vice and it's grouping wasn't far off the new fangled (at the time) CO2 FWB's 🙂

Genuine question. For the people that buy these, is it more about shooting, or just collecting them that appeals?
I've always had a fascination with guns. Used to have loads of toy guns as a kid. And wandered past a shop the other day that had loads of airsoft in the window, and they just looked awesome! Really made me want to buy one. But what kind of wierdo collects guns?? 😉 Seriously though, I'd genuinely feel uncomfortable buying one. Like I'd immediately be put on some terrorist register.
Anyway. I'm not gonna ask anymore questions, cos it sounds like it could be an expensive hobby.
I used to go after rabbits etc with mine a good few years ago.
Could never bring myself to shoot one nowadays though.
We get the occasional rat at the end of the garden feeding on the bird table ... I used to bowl them over with the rifle, but can`t bring myself to even shoot a rat nowadays either.
The pistol was bought to do a bit of plinking in the garden. But they are horrendously inaccurate compared to a rifle with good sights so I got bored of that quickly.
They are both locked away gathering dust nowadays. Would never sell them though.
Perfectly reasonable question Butcher.
I started shooting 10 metre air pistol at 14 or 15 after pestering my Mum for ages. Via the school DofE scheme I was put in touch the local club in Nottingham. Shot twice a week and did weekend competitions until I was mid 20's. Also discovered MTB's when I was 14 or 15 (around '87) so that saw a decline in the shooting!
For me it was always the challenge of the next personal best. Could I get another 10? Could I regularly get each card of 10 shots into the 90's? Could I hold my nerve under pressure in a competition and perform my best? I look back and believe that the discipline and responsibility of shooting was a huge influence on my growing up, and firmly believe I am a better person for doing it.
