Recently viewed are: Drive, Kill list, Limitless, Killer elite,Thor, 127 Hours,Warrior, Troll hunter...

Have you seen anything good recently? Nothing too thought provoking, more the kind of film you can watch with friends and chat rubbish a little the same time.

The classics are usually the best, Die Hard, Predator or Rambo

It's a bit of an oldie now, but if you've not seen it then The Losers is pretty cracking.

Kill List though? Not thought provoking? 😉

Demolition Man is one of my faves; lots of action (AKA violence), decent Sci-fi story and really forgettable one-liners.

If Stallone, Snipes & Sandra's Bollox had a shred of acting ability it could have actually been quite good 🙂

Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey Jnr/Jude Law in a Victorian Lock Stock)

Lucky Number Slevin (good mix of action with a good story)

Boondock Saints (classic favourite of mine)

Must admit I wasn't too impressed by Kill List, even worse I borrowed it from a friend and a week later was sent it by lovefilm. My fault, but what a waste of a credit!

We have seen al the usual classics, but will check out the losers.

Can't beat some Nicholas Cage rubbish: Con Air or The Rock are good fun.

Or an Alien/Aliens fest in the run-up to a boys night out to watch Prometheus at the end of the month?

Not seen Machine Gun Preacher yet. God Bless America is worth a watch, but not as good as it could have been, in my humble opinion.

Have you seen Shoot 'em Up? WAY better than I thought it would be. No plot whatsoever, but the action scenes are pretty awesome. Which is most of the film...

Pretty sure I have seen 'shoot em up', but can't really remember it. We quite like war based films like Tears of the sun, Black Hawk Down, Blood Diamond.. , not sure if there are any recent ones though.

Is machete any good?

Hobo with a shotgun

or

Drive Angry

Both daft and rubbish, but oddly brilliant at the same time!

13th Warrior
It's a very silly film with Vikings, swords, fights, mud and rain - what's not to like.

Seen training day, man on fire, zombieland and 13th warrior, just added Machine gun preacher to my lovefilm list. We usually only talk if the film is a let down.

3. No Country For Old Men
4. Jaws

Under Siege. Has to be a classic and on DVD you won't have it going all fuzzy as the old VHS from the corner shop used to go at THAT moment as it used to back when we were students with a case of Super Bock to drink.

OK, give us a list of the 572 films you've seen so far, and we can recommend some new ones. 😀

How about House of 1000 Corpses or The Devils Rejects? Both good for a laugh with a beer.

rogg, we don't always watch a film, but often do. Not much that is good slips through the net, but I've noted a few down from the replies, mesrine for one. We seem to be watching them faster than they can make them.

I know, it's easy to do, especially with the crap being churned out right now (Battleships, anyone?)
And not many of the suggestions above really qualified as 'hidden gems' did they?
How about:
A Prophet (French)
Sin Nombre (Mexican)
The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada (maybe a bit slow for boys night, but worth a watch)
Elite Squad (Brazil)

Definitely seek out District 13. And watched Ip Man a couple of weeks ago on FilmFour, brilliant kung-fu film, highly recommended.

Just remembered. Don't think anyone has mentioned Heat.
The bank shootout in surround sound makes you feel like you have to take cover under the coffee table.
