Still in, thought I was going to get done last night at the wife's Christmas party but that was the one Christmas track the DJ didn't play.

PSA for those still in the game.  Avoid BBC2 tonight at 8:35.  A whole program dedicated to the story of Last Christmas and how it became a cultural phenomenon.  It would be prudent to avoid Beeb 2 all evening actually its bloomin Wham/George Michael night.

Thought I was in for an easy ride this year as I was abroad for the first half of December. Landed yesterday morning, nipped into the supermarket on the way home to get a pint of milk and guess what was wafting out of the PA system. Out.

Oops, self inflicted trip to Whamhalla, listening to Xmas Hits on Freeview ch71 while web browsing and suddenly realised what had happened just before the song ended! 😆

Still in, although almost got taken out yesterday. Was a speeded up, dancier mix, so technically doesn't count. Feels like winning on a technicality, mind you. I'm the last one in our family still 'in'.

First time in at least a decade. Think i've made it to Christmas every year since it started.

I was out on Saturday morning. I made it to the 21st last year before the GF sabotaged me, this year my mate inadvertently got me by putting the radio on in his van

out.  survived all the christmas drinks, trips into town, supermarkets etc and taken out unexpectedly thanks to my lad.

he's actually stuffed me for the 2nd year on the trot.  last year spitefully playing it on his phone cos he knew i didnt want to hear it.

this year, (innocently) recommended that we watch the new netflix film 'carry-on', which sadly contains a clip of LC being played in the background.  double whammy, of course im now out, but the films sh1t too.

so...... if youre still in, dont watch carry-on, and if you dont want to watch a sh1t film, dont watch carry-on.

EDIT:

FFS.  Watched a film with Mrs fadda this evening, and got whammed halfway through.

Film was called “Carry On” with Tarun Egerton, if you want to avoid…

just seen this at the top of the page, why oh why did i not pay attention?

That's it, Ahm oot. 2 weeks on the trot at the climbing wall was always going to be a risky business, but they got about 20 of us last night around 21:30 as the night was coming to an end.
I sometimes play a variation on The Rules, which allows me to hear the intro, and so long as I take myself away to sanctuary before the singing starts, I consider it a pyrrhic victory; no such luck last night, I was still tied-in and being lowered off the last route. There were two saving graces. One was that the next track was The Pogues & Kirsty McColl, which I personally very much like. And the other was that my mate Mick got Whammed at the same time, even though he'd only heard of the game about 2 days ago.

Last Christmas is the only Christmas song I've not heard so far this year, and that started with Slade on 1st December.

I immediately thought of someone complaining on this thread when I heard that come on. Probably the highlight of the film, if I'm being honest.

Still in. Longest survival time ever.

Despite skirting with oblivion by playing it in my band at our Xmas gig and DJing the kids bike club Xmas party - used the Glee cast version for that to specifically avoid taking myself or anyone out. Of course nobody had a clue what I was talking about.
Worried about the shopping centre trip tomorrow. Feel like I’m going over the top sir. I’ll see you all in Whamhalla!

They just got me, 6 music news

Had the news report on 6 come on twice yesterday about it being the Christmas number 1.

Leapt at the radio and switched it off before they could play a clip.

6 is usually my safe space! 🙂

I feel we should recreate these scenes in slow motion. With close ups of the hero’s face just as realisation hits.

Goddamn house party. Was literally asking the host to please delete the killer song from the playlist when she said ‘What this one’. And there it was playing loud and clear. Whammed. I had a very good run this year. Dodged many Whambullets. Today was just my time I guess.
May the George be with you

I am in a quantum state, I caught a note or two of something that could have been Last Christmas by Wham, but turned it off before I could be absolutely sure.

Pint of Wharfedale Blonde was nice though

Still in, I’ve never got this far before.

I achieved it but having no friends, no social life, never going out, and not watching telly.

Snap, first year ever I've made it the whole way but I don't see many people and work completely from home so it was really quite simple. Absolute radio and nothing else.

Heard it in November in the local, then somehow I have missed it since. Two years in a row I've made it to Christmas Day.

Here's a question.  Some of you may know that cheapskate venues, who do not want to pay high fees to record companies for playing the actual recordings of popular songs, can instead licence the use of "sound-alike" recordings for which the fees are lower.  I heard one of those in the restaurant last night.  I thought I had been whammed, but then realised I had not (assuming cover versions don't count, which I was told up-thread).

But here's a theoretical issue.  The volume of the music in the restaurant varied.  At one point all I could tell was that there was music somewhere in the hubbub of a busy restaurant.  But my both daughter and her fiancee, with their younger ears, could detect you-know-what, though probably that was the sound-alike as well (fiancee also agreed that the one played more loudly was not the Whamtastic original).  So the hypothetical question is, if I can't make out the tune, but it is decipherable by peeps with better ears, have I been whammed?

Well, back to wrapping presents, it appears I made it.  Merry Christmas

As expected, survived. Got grazed by a cover version on a supermarket but despite constant 70s 80s pop music blaring everywhere in both Argentina and Chile, I got through.

Made it to 2330 on xmas eve.
Mainly due to leaving home for the ship on the 9th, then only having access to my own music.
Put on a xmas playlist as I settled into starting my watch before midnight. Boom. First track that hit me...

Nice program on the making of the song and video last night. I was a wham fan first time around but never really warned to George’s solo music. But what a talent. Worth watching. If only to see how pissed they all were in the video party!

I was out on Dec 2nd

Made it. No Wham at all, no do they know it's Christmas either which was surprising given it was the 40th anniversary.  Did get pogued on Christmas day though.
