It came on R5 last night - they were saying it's 40(?) years since original relelase so obvz played a bit of it.  I didn't hang around to see what their listeners had to say about that !

Do covers count as to being Whammed?

Got taken out on the 1st by a bl**dy rickshaw riding past in London.

Covers and remixes don't count. It's in the rules: https://whamageddon.com/

https://whamageddon.com//a >

The Rules!
The 1st Rule
The objective is to go as long as possible without hearing WHAM's Christmas classic; "Last Christmas".

The 2nd Rule
The game starts on December 1st, and finishes at the end of December 24th.
Use your local timezone, if you'd like.
(Yes, we're European heathens)

The 3rd Rule
Only the original version applies. Enjoy the ?#!$&%! out of remixes and covers.

The 4th Rule
You're out as soon as you recognise the song.

Bonus Rule
Post on social media with the #whamageddon hashtag when you get hit.

PvP?
While we can't stop you from deliberately sending your friends to Whamhalla, the intention is that this is a survival game. Not a Battle Royale. So ... don't be a dick, mkay?

So according to the 2nd rule Ernie is still in, and according to the 3rd rule, it's only the Wham version that counts.

December 1st. Christmas playlist playing in the car. I don't actively play and try and avoid it but I normally manage more than 12 hours.

Yep, arrived in a cafe yesterday to be knocked out by their background tunes...mrs_oab and I both made Christmas last year, so gutted to be out so early..

I dodged a bullet yesterday at the dentist. My other half heard it in the waiting room. Fortunately for me they had a different station on in the treatment room 🙂

I can't remember if it's played in this, but I'm granting an exemption if it is as it wouldn't be "getting caught" by Wham, would it? One of the longer cafe ride videos and well worth a watch. Stephens and Ridgeley on great form, loveley chilled vid.

Out on December 2nd. As was anyone else walking into and out of Waterloo Station on Monday evening as the infernal pedal rickshaw was playing it at full whack at the entrance. Along with a light show!

I don't actively "play" as such, but have avoided it so far. My propensity for cafes with background music is likely to be where I fall foul.

Still in. Despite the fact there is a guy at work who thinks its ok to pop up on team calls and play it. He started doing it last year when he went out early.

Not playing, I’m coming up short on the number of phucs I couldn’t give for shit Christmas songs! I only ever listen to 6Music, and then only in the car, I’ve got quite a few good Christmas/seasonal songs in my library, but I can’t be arsed with playlists, and the only shops in town where I’d be likely to hear anything like that were flooded out a week ago and are likely closed for most of December.

Bah! And indeed, humbug!

So shoot me now. I love it, yes love it, could happily listen once an hour ( all credibility out of the window). I got whammed on 29th Nov ( it doesn’t count) .
The video is excellent and lots of fun. Whoop whoop.

I don't mind it at all, in fact I'd take it every day of the week if I didn't have to listen to that Slade shite ever again

And don't get me started on that fairytale crapola

I believe in father Christmas is the one true Christmas song, it should be the national anthem during December

yay @bunnyhop ! Me too. It’s my absolutely favourite Christmas song and I go out of my way to listen to it 😀 All the other songs played at this time of year are  complete Christmas pants. I don’t know why people go out of their way to avoid the one good one.

Accidentally Whammed myself in November. Then remembered the rules, so I'm still in. Coffee shops are going to do for me, I'd imagine

Still in.

Going to the local Am-Dram panto tomorrow night and I 100% expect to be taken out during the interval.

They'll do it deliberately to get the whole audience.

I don't think it's any kind of comment on the quality of the song. Just a game trying to avoid something so prevalent. It's a great song hence why it's everywhere 🙂

I'm on 6 Music so should be fairly safe for a while. Liking the more niche side of Christmas songs they'll play.

Taken out by my own family! Walked down the stairs this morning and Wham! playing on a Christmas playlist. Tis the last time I give Mrs F and the kids access to my Tidal account.

Missed this thread. Not that I am bothered as German TV did a piece all about the song back in November which Mrs WF was watching in the background.

Thought this'll never get me. I never listen to the radio or any other music but my own... then we left the cinema on Saturday night (Heretic, 6 out of 10), pub opposite, lets go for a drink and discuss religion... walk in the door, Wham at ear splitting volume, we look at each other, shake our heads, turn and depart for home. Bastards.

Got removed from the race on Saturday.

Picked up Mrs The Spider's new car, turned on the radio, and got Whambushed.

My kids are still in the game though.

I cannot believe it, but I’m still in the game. Wasn’t even played at the work Christmas do disco. Wtf?

Also, have avoided sites where Heart Christmas is being played all day during December.

Still haven’t knowingly heard it - or any significant Christmas chart songs yet. I don’t listen to any radio stations that are likely to play Wham! And I’m not sure that 6Music plays it, but I don’t listen during the day anyway.

@welshfarmer - it does start until December 1st so you should be still in.

I'm surprised I'm still actually, Romesh played it Nov 30th and I thought I was stuffed, but then remembered it hadn't started yet!

I got to take my car in for a service at Cribbs Causeway, Bristol tomorrow.

Four hours to waste in Mallcatraz.

So, I reckon I will be out tomorrow.

Unless a new rule could be introduced and I will play my Joker. For all day tomorrow.

Driving my eldest (8) back from visiting Grandad in the hospital in my mum's car with classic fm on. A miserable charity advert resulted in a "thanks classic for ruining Christmas" in disgust so I flicked it over to Heart in time to hear the closing bars. She was overjoyed to have got me and giggled all the way to soft play, where it was on  full blast

Every trip to the supermarket is risky at this time of year but this evening I was lucky and the much more palatable Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses was playing in Asda.

I mentioned to my wife yesterday that I was still playing. So she subsequently sent me an Insta reel with Last Christmas as the background music. So i am out on Day 11.

Is this grounds for divorce lol. She doesn't even feel slightly guilty!

Its over. Unless I play my Joker as above.

Survived:
The garage, Asda, Dunelm, B&M all in a row.

Lost it in Halfords 🙁

Going to start counting how many times I hear it again today.

🙂

I fully expected to be out at the climbing wall last night, but they were thankfully on a much more sensible rock-based list. We'll see what happens next week; it seems to be very variable according to who's (wo)manning the reception desk.

Well, it wasn't playing at yoga, but MrsMC was wrapping presents to a Christmas playlist when I got back. She is forgiven as the left over stir fry was delicious.

Thought I’d got whammed yesterday when my Indie Christmas playlist had a cover. But you can’t get Whammed! without it being Wham!, can you? Live to fight another day.

My 9 year old is in on the game but taking it rather too seriously. He’s getting seriously anxious whenever the radio’s on!

I went to a work Xmas karaoke last Friday. Amazed that it didn't feature. But I did mention it to some colleagues.

Today in a Teams meeting one of my colleagues said "since you told us about that Mariah Carey thing I've heard that song loads of times!"

She was massively relieved when I pointed out her error and said she hasn't heard the song that shall not be named yet.
