Anyone else playing this year?
Am oot already, switched the radio on today and it's the first bloody tune they played. Managed to get right through last year so pi§§Ed off this year - not even passed the starting grid
😠
I only listen to heart70s/absolute70s.... No xmas songs..
well that and Solar Radio when in the garage.
I got knocked out on the 1st of December last year when I popped into a shop. Hopefully I'll do better this year.
5Live had left it as the backing track to the bauble game, so i was out at 7.16 this morning.
They did apologise as they had said they would play something else today.
I'm in - haven't even switched the radio on yet, so safe so far. 🙂
It got me in M&S Monday night, does it count as it was still November then?
Girls at work have inane local commercial radio playing, so I’m at risk every time I pop in for a brew, otherwise pubs or supermarket are my biggest risk.
When does it officially start? As I got hit the weekend before last in Amsterdam, so quite possibly already out before it really started 🙁
Thank you SO much for the ear worm
Out within 10 minutes of getting to work this morning, after someone played it on their laptop.
Covid made it easier as I went into far fewer shops - made it to 23rd last year.
6music during the day should be safe enough, but my MUCH better half has R2 in the car, so that's really where my danger lies, when I get in and turn the ignition on without thinking...
.

yep, caught me on that one too the eejits.
Official start is 0000hrs on the 1st of December, so before today you were safe. Woke up to a text from my better half at 0652 my time bemoaning that she'd made it to the 23rd last year but was out on the first day this year. Gutted for her.
The Rules!
The 1st Rule
The objective is to go as long as possible without hearing WHAM's Christmas classic; "Last Christmas".The 2nd Rule
The game starts on December 1st, and finishes at the end of December 24th.
Use your local timezone, if you'd like.
(Yes, we're European heathens)The 3rd Rule
Only the original version applies. Enjoy the ?#!$&%! out of remixes and covers. The 4th Rule
You're out as soon as you recognise the song.Bonus Rule
Post on social media with the #whamageddon hashtag when you get hit.PvP?
While we can't stop you from deliberately sending your friends to Whamhalla, the intention is that this is a survival game. Not a Battle Royale. So ... don't be a dick, mkay?
Managed it last year, let's go for the double this year.
Back in the game, then!
I was out several days ago - whatever god-awful commercial station gets played over the PA in the next workshop played it, might have been at the weekend. ☹️
Ah, just noticed the 2nd Rule! I’m not back at work until the 14th, working to the18th, there’s no way I’ll have any radio on that is likely to play it, and WHAM is out of the question anyway, as far as my tastes are concerned, so I might get away with it until Christmas, I don’t go back until the new year!
Ah, the benefit of a shift system along with having holidays to use up before the new year. 😎
Out due to radio 2...
Not a chance I'll make it. the office has a shop down in the atrium which you can hear pretty much anywhere in the building
Wham's 'Last Christmas' one of the best tunes ever. I'm still waiting to hear it.
Hubby is playing 'Christmas song bingo'. where there are many tunes on a list that he has to tick off. By the 25th, we may be flagging.
I'm out already - got WHAMbushed last night when I went out to pick my daughter up from dancing, turned the key and the radio burst in to life with 'that song'........
Got to around the 18th last year lol
and were off!
survived the German Christmas markets already
I’m still in, but I don’t listen to radio at all in December or January.
And i wear NC earbuds when I go into shops.
So feel confident i’ll win.
Although i got knocked out on xmas eve last year.
Twitter took me out this morning, I knew I was playing with fire
6 muzak has so far proved a safe haven. 😊
6 muzak has so far proved a safe haven. 😊
Should be safe from Wham, but you can feel the Christmas songs coming. There was one about snow last night... conspicuous bells will be making an appearance soon, and before you know it, every other song will be Fleet Foxes' White Winter Hymnal and MAH will be inviting us to imagine taking a sonic journey aboard a sleigh.
The last couple of years has been great. I haven't really gone into shops or listened to the radio, so I only have to worry if someone puts on Christmas songs in the house. This year, to save me from tears, I'll have to keep the earbuds in when I go in a shop. Mrs.10 keeps putting the car radio on the Denver equivalent of Wave 105. I just have to remember to change that as I get into the car.
This year, to save me from tears
I see what you did there - nice
Got though to the end last year, a combination of no radio and online shopping. Trying the same tactic this year 🙂
got WHAMbushed last night
A phrase that could have multiple meanings
Whambushed at the local am-dram panto!
Boooo!
Mill's did the R2 crowd up like a kipper yesterday opening his show with it without warning, every workshop and garage out 2pm 1st Dec.
One of my rules of life is that if I enter a workshop or garage and they're not playing R2 I immediately walk out and find somewhere else.
NTS radio on at home 24/7 so it's just the car I'm at risk mostly.
I might be the minority here but I think the song is an absolute belter - one of my favourite Christmas songs.
I thought I was out this morning when the wife's watching the Pentatonix thing on Disney they started singing it... Came here to find covers don't count..
Back in the game!
If you want to live dangerously then Channel 5 until 9pm....
Deleted double post.
I’m out, beat last year by 1 day! Because my car is off the road broken I had to use my wife’s car and the radio is fixed on magic radio - Christmas bloody music the whole time!
It is a belter of a song but that’s not the point of the game!
If you want to live dangerously then Channel 5 until 9pm….
On right now!
Daughters Christmas concert last night, one ensemble played a "Medley of Christmas Hits". There's was an audible "bugger" a couple of rows behind me when this was included
Out by 8am on the 1st. In the kitchen sorting out school pack ups. 10yo daughter walks in... "Alexa, play christmas songs" "OK, here's a station you might like..." and first bloody song it pipes up with!
Still here, despite a couple of dicey encounters with shop music and a cafe that gave us The Wombles and Cliff but not, fortunately, Wham.
Last year I copped it in October, courtesy of a trip to Fenwicks’ kitchen shop which happened to be next to their “Christmas” shop. Yes, before Hallowe’en.
Only counts from December 1st tho innit?
So if you heard it in October, that’s irrelevant to the game.
I’m out caught out in November with a Tesco tv ad but then lasted to 5th fed up with R4 rolling headlines clicked on search ended up on radio advert FM within seconds there it was if your still in playing take care and good luck
Im out. Made the mistake of telling my daughter what WhamAggedden is and she instantly played it on her phone 🙄😂
I'm still in play. I survived a shopping centre today too
I’m being whammed at work as I type 😫

That’s got to be some serious Santa sanctions happening soon kids these days just no respect
Still in. 3 trips to town, 3 to supermarket and one extended garden centre visit. Oh, an evening out in London too.
Is it being played less this year?
I kind of play along with this but don’t go out of my way to play it. I’ve been Christmas shopping, had days out in bars, a Christmas party and the radio playing at work. Not hit at all until last night. Went to watch the football club, they had Christmas tunes on. 😂
Still in here. Jeopardy at the Christmas tree farm but averted, phew.
I only listen to heart70s/absolute70s…. No xmas songs..
well that and Solar Radio when in the garage.
OT, I'm another Solar Radio listener. Would guess there aren't many more here.
Went to Caldwell's Mill cafe, in Rowsley near Bakewell on today's gravel ride. The shop playlist included A Wombling Merry Christmas, Johnah Louis and that travesty of a Christmas version of 3 Lions, (something of a piss-take given last nights result!) but no Wham.
I was convinced I was going to get it, but live to fight another day. 👍
That’s got to be some serious Santa sanctions happening soon kids these days just no respect.
She was warned but still did it! I blame the parents 🙄
Out, that'll teach me for shopping at The Range.
Bugger. 6 minutes past midnight 14th Des. OJ Borg. normally a purveyor of decent music starts his show straight from the news. No warning. No intro. Wham Bang thank you Mam.
I'm OOOT 🙁
TBF this has been my best showing since forever
Into the danger zone yesterday as I had to do a stealth run of Tesco. Got away with it though.
Other half keeps changing the kitchen station from 6 to 2,so I'm in constant jeopardy.
Need to go to ground
In the pub last night before our work Christmas curry, and there was a compilation of cheesy Christmas music playing... Thought I was for it, but nope, I live to fight another day.
Does it have to be the Wham original or are covers included?
Does it have to be the Wham original or are covers included?
I believe you’re safe if you’ve heard a cover.
I’m still in!
Trusty Berlingo eliminated me this morning on drive to work.😕
No Xmas for me.
I spoke too soon. I sometimes share an office with a colleague who listens to Radio 2... I thought that might get me, though he works from home most days, and I'm mostly in the lab at the moment. But this afternoon, I heard what I was hoping might be a cover, quietly, in the background of our conversation. Just looked back at the playlist, and it was indeed Ridgeley and Co. Rats.
Uh oh. there's a Christmas tunes playlist jingle-belling away in the office. I fear it's just a matter of time....
(currently Jonah Lewis, Stop the Cavalry).
Still in. One cover so far but nothing from the duo themselves.
I'm still in too, probably my 10th successful year. (So far.)
Still in.
Can't touch me mate.
Playlist has ended and I'm still in! Amazeballs.
Got gotted last night at the school's Christmas social for the parents. Arse.
Still in, helped by working from home.
Out for a meal tonight, what's the chances...? (posh restaurant, so chances are probably better than in maccys...)
Still not heard it but I work from home and listen to 6Music or Internet radio plus the local Morrisons and Aldi don't play music
😎🎅🎄
Still in here too, despite living dangerously for a short period in Telford Town Centre shops for 45 mins (as long as I could stomach the place) last week. WFH for most of the time, combined with Planet Rock in the car on the few days I have been to the office, has been a good bet. However, tomorrow involves a 200+ mile drive to Suffolk, and Mrs Lawman will probably require Radio2 in the car for a fair proportion of the journey. That may be my undoing, I fear.
Emergency trip to Tesco got me this morning
I was worried at a Christmas quiz when they started a Christmas music round.
Other than that I've not really heard much Christmas music in Spain, although the local radio do tend to play a lot of English language tunes.
They're all about the the Kings here 🙂
They also seem to favour Belens over Chrissy Tress (the heathens).
Out yesterday 21/12/22 in Tesco too. Pretty good innings I thought.
Saw this thread pop up and realised I'm still in! The usual technique of no radio and avoiding shops that play music is working well.
Still in too, first time I've made it past the first week in December. A change of job has helped where I don't have to listen to R2 or be subjected to the pap on R1 in the workshop 😁
Still in...just.... 2 cover versions and running away when the radio said they were about to play a song by Wham.
But its been feeling like a game of Russian Roulette every time I leave the house car/shop/supermarket
P.
Thought I'd lost the fight in the Wellington Centre in Aldershot this afternoon. Luckily it was their own music tracks being played throughout the centre. Still in then.
Still in. A carefully curated combination of Radio4, metal playlists, Xbox and selective Netflix viewing has kept it at bay despite trips to two of Southampton's large shopping centres in the last week.
Despite attempting Russian whamlette in the work pool car for a week, and Christmas songs being played at the ski area, I'm still in. I almost suiwhammed at home by starting a Christmas station on Amazon. Before sense kicked in and I chnaged to a playlist and skipped the song of doom. I'm so close.
