You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
And the sausage rolls from the Bakehouse are a-mazing.
I've found everything from the bakehouse a-mazing. Currently top favourite cake is the Large egg custard
Would now be a good time to put on a town centre evening crit race?
Given that the 'town' centre is a single road, not really 🙂

I'd imagine the locals want to get back to some semblance of normality wth open roads, not have the whole lot closed down again!
Water level down to the target level now
Do keep up Jules, that's the link I posted half an hour ago! 😉
By 4pm yesterday afternoon there was 720 1 tonne bags of ballast by air and 250 tonnes of grout in the hole and the Chinook was back there today dropping more. That was some hole!!
Yes and the pear tree cafe.
Now called 'Little Fika' - apparently it's Swedish for coffee - and gently Scandi, but not in noir sort of way. Only been there once since it changed owner, but it seems pleasant.
Cake Nest just down the road in Furness is owned by a cyclist (road/MTBer) and he lives in Whaley. Mail order cakes...
PS that hole was massive - you only realised the scale when the 1 tonne bags went in.
Finally better late than never, a local councillor has managed to prevent parking through Marple Bridge. The parking though the village and just up the hill has caused tailbacks to Hazel Grove and beyond.
I've not seen such inconsiderate, selfish driving from Motorists trying to get from Marple Bridge to New Mills and back for a long time. They are not used to driving on very narrow windy country lanes. They block up roads, don't give way and have no concept of the highway code.
And breath.
Well done to most people though, who have realised they're in a certain situation and patiently got on with it.

It's more than that though, not just coffee but delicious cakes, biscuits and socialising with co-workers and friends. If they do a good cinnamon bun, go there and enjoy. If they have just about anything made from 'Sju sorters kakor' the same applies; it's a book filled with awesome recipes.

Just the standard entitled nature of motorists in general. Every one of the police, volunteers and Traffic Management people I've spoken to while walking or cycling around the area has stories of irate motorists who demand to be let through because *their* journey is essential.
People have been moving Road Closed signs, driving through (or just driving round them in the pavement), finding out that, astonishingly, the road is actually closed and then doing an angry 7-point turn and roaring off the way they've come, driving on the pavement around the Closed signs again.
Morons.

Fans of The Bridge will remember the scene where Saga drops in on the office "fika" and starts talking about her menstruation ... 🙂

If it's anything like Nordic Cafe (chain) in London, don't touch with a barge pole 🙁
Dammit. I feel spoiled then. Even average petrol station kanelbullar are decent and, when I go to a local bakery, they can be amazing.
Mmmmm. buuuuns.

I can sort of see why, our road was 'Closed' for six weeks earlier this year. By 'closed' I mean the council put up closed signs at both ends and other than that it was pretty much open as normal bar some minor roadworks which didn't impact traffic at all. Everyone could get in and out without any bother. Certainly when I see Road Closed signs I do think, is it really?
Crazy-legs - Agree. Cycling around has been a joy.
At the road block from the A6 police there were laughing at us on our mtb tandem, joking they could only let one of us through.
Will try the new cafe.
Marple Bridge....
I've totally missed what's going on in Marple Bridge/New Mills, what's going on there?
Jon Taylor - Because of all the road blocks (Strines Rd Marple, A6 Furness Vale, all roads in to Whaley, most main routes into New Mills) the only way into New Mills is via Mellor Road from Marple Bridge, along past the Pack Horse pub and into the back end of New Mills.
Closure due to Threat of Dam burst in Whaley Bridge.
Ah thanks, I hadn't realised Whaley Bridge was just down there (not my neck of the woods and they haven't been there long). As they're in that area it's no doubt affecting them!
On the news now that residents can start returning to their homes but road restrictions will remain until the end of the week to assist with the traffic as people drive home.
Police presence there for 7 more days to help with it all too.
My village has had a lot of quite big lorries trying to get through it as the road from Hadden Hill is closed. In the past they been marked as closed but you could often get through (I always could, but I'm on a bike.) Not this time though as the guys building some new homes smashed up a gas main.
A lot of cars doing the ignore it thing and then 15 minutes later come back up the road with red faces. Bless.

It didn't really blow my socks off tbh, but I've only been the once and I was quite fond of the previous incarnation. A mate of mine used to reserve the sofa for business meetings.
I used to cover Whaley for work but that was 5-6 years ago - is the bike shop still there?

Totally normal for New Mills where the general standard of driving is freaking abject at the best of times.
Everyone can go home! 🙂

Chapeau to everyone who has worked 24x7 to get this sorted and support the Whaleyites in the meantime.
*insert applause gif here*

Communal coffee break really. I miss Sweden.
Stand the chopper down.
Need the pubs to get beer now........
Was over Whitehough, Chinley way yesterday, plenty of beer there.
Road closures have certainly helped get rid of the long queues up High Lane down to Hazel Grove caused by the new bypass, alas it will soon be back to the new normal!
You can still access a lot of the surrounding area through Goyt Valley and Long Lane AFAIK.
Someones going to get a nice bill for the use of the chinook.
The bridleways round Mellor (that aren’t weirdly surfaced) are in an incredible state after all the storms. The bottom is like a sand dune, the middle a rock garden and the top just mud. Making the uphills a bit more fun!
