Will be in the water for about an hour off Eastbourne.

Is a shorty going to be ok or should I go long? Thinking a shorty will be easier to get into on the beach.

Go long but drill holes in it to let the heat out.

I would say go long, Crete last April in a shorty was on the chilly side, I wouldn't have lasted an hour.

In true STW style, I'll answer a different question. I dive in Malta and use a Scubapro shorty with a slightly oversize long wetsuit to go over it. Shorty is 2 mm and long suit is 3 giving me 2, 3 or 5mm depending on the time of year and weather. Malta winter is similar to UK summer and I only use both in "winter" so I'd guess 5mm long would be my recommendation for UK summer. Also, although I use and would recommend Scubapro kit, trying it on is essential as fit is how wet suits work

I've got a thermocline combo (farmer johns and a ls top) for warmer waters - depending on water temp on day, I might be in both or just the top.

I think my 7mm long would be too hot both in & out of the water.

I would go long. I would also wear a hood/****cap. You loose so much heat from our head and your head will be underwater when snorkling.

Summer? I'd just wear shorts but I quite like swimming / snorkelling in cool water 🙂

It will be cold in a shorty but not unbearable. Depends how well you handle the cold. The sun on your back will help if the weather is nice.

I could not decide so bought a long sleeveless and a shorty from decathlon, only 25 quid i think. Anyway, as its kayaking I overheat pretty quickly....so stick to shorty and a rash vest underneath. Latter came from sports direct, 8 quid, gul, must have gone bust.

Not mentioned in this guide https://www.nearestbeach.co.uk/snorkelling-beach/

I always wore a 3/2 long steamer (sealed seams) down south Kitesurfing and was fine from April to sometimes as late as October.

We stay at The Hydro and there's a big line of rocks in front when the tide is out.

Have kayaked along it and the water was really clear and lots of great big crabs.  It's a lot easier to have a sneaky snorkel rather than get my brother to break out the kayaks.

Its not the Red Sea but I just love being in the sea and exploring rocks.

I would also wear a hood/****cap.

This! We went snorkelling in Talisker Bay in Skye (anything to escape the midgies).

Body temps were fine in our rag-tag selection of borrowed and moth eaten full length wetsuits, but ice cream headaches were severe every time we put our heads in the water...

Not mentioned in this guide

given some of their recommendations in cornwall, i'd pay that guide much attention... (unless you like snorkelling on flat sandy beaches)

Most of the time the water in Ebo will not be clear enough to bother, but on a good day I think that makes it all the more interesting. I've been off holywell where that picture is, and further round toward beachy head. Also seaford east of splash point is interesting, and cuckmere haven/hope gap. Just get the thickest full length suit you can find. You won't be too warm. Hood and maybe gloves. Might want weights as well otherwise it'll be hard to dive down.

Water temps only 15C at the mo’ I’d go 3/2 long with a hood.
