Armed police, ambulances and firefighters are responding to the incident in central London, which happened shortly after 07:30 BST.
Officers were seen surrounding the vehicle before a man was arrested.
Reports say cyclists were hit but police do not believe anybody is in a life-threatening condition.
3pts and a £50 fine? About right for that sort of thing.
Or the headline writer just made an arse of it and doesn't know what a pedestrian is. (Or didn't actually read the article is more likely)
Strange thread.
It looks like he tried to drive into the carpark. I can't imagine someone intent on doing injuries would drive directly at a metal bollard rather than finding pedestrians to mow down in other parts of central London (or even 200 metres away)
Keeps Sky News happy for the rest of the day. Might even get some anti-cyclist opinions. "if they weren't there, jumping red lights and not wearing hi-vis, we wouldn't have terrorists trying to hit them".
I think you'll find he has no recollection of hitting cyclists, but admits he may have been present when they unexpectedly dismounted.
Edit: I retract this, a dick thing to say when people are getting hurt, sorry.
Hopefully the cyclist lying in the road in the video footage isn't seriously hurt. It's still being treated as a terrorist incident afaik so not sure what point the OP is trying to make?
Only two in hospital afaik. No life-threatening injuries. Police have the driver. Loads of armed police at the scene. The driver hit barriers that have been there for many years. Sounds like a particularly half-arsed attempt that was dealt with very effectively. Apparently police are asked to approach the vehicle, even though a bomb is a popular tactic.

that this is probably the only time hitting a cyclist will make serious news or be treated as much more than cyclists in the way of car indecent.
The headlines are stating pedestrians hit, when it was cyclists. 'People ' should suffice.
Yeah I'm not buying that Mike.
Be interesting to see how this unfolds as seems a very poor attempt for a terrorist attack. There's busier times and eaisr targets.
"Pedestrians" gets more attention and sympathy.
Terrorist attack or medical issue or road rage 'bloody cyclists' incident at an inopportune location (for the driver)?
Regarding hitting cyclists - pretty sure at that time of the day in central London the sun would have been low in the sky & being momentarily blinded by the sun is pretty much inevitable.
Hopefully, those involved are not seriously injured!
Classy post ....files in the 'op is a bit of a dick' folder
What a very odd post.
The driving is also odd.
Footage here shows an ambulance coming alongside car which swerves to the left along the what is maybe a cycle lane?
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-45180974
very bizarre footage. Looks like there was an ambulance coming up behind him with lights flashing and then as they should have been turning right he swerved across the pavement and then drive down the carpark lane and into the barrier with a police van a few seconds behind him anyway.
Maybe he was intending to do something but got spooked by the sirens and panicked?
edit: beaten to it by Drac.
Seems like a blatant attempt to go over anti-cyclist victimhood at a time when it's completely unrelated to the incident at hand and not really appropriate...?
Apologies as there were no deaths I may have gone a bit too flippant. But in reality this will get heaps of attention, loads of cash spent defending buildings etc whereas spending on road safety in general and protection of people in the rest of the country will remain a very low priority.
Being reported that the driver was on the "radar".

I think you need to step back, breathe and have a think about what appears to have happened. It is a suspected terror attack and it has nothing to do with general road safety.

That doesn't surprise me. It'd be far more concerning if he wasn't.
Also just reported he wasn't on the radar.
Kay Burley has been deployed.
Good to see the bbc on the ball
”BBC News home affairs correspondent June Kelly described the terror arrest as a "significant development".”
Also just reported he wasn’t on the radar.
Reports being mixed up bollocks in order to be first does not surprise me.

Standard rolling news practice. Something major happens. News crews rush to the site and start speculating wildly. No-one actually has a clue what's happening, the emergency services are doing their best to save life, preserve the scene, protect the wider population etc and haven't really got time to be spelling things out to the news who start bringing in "experts" or (God forbid) "eyewitnesses" and start asking them inane questions.
Meanwhile all they've actually got to go on is 15 seconds of footage, looped continuously, while they try and string it out, desperately hoping for some sort of scoop.
I'll turn the news on again in a couple of days, they may have worked it out by then.
Yup pretty much sums it up Crazy legs, reports from incidents I attended always make me laugh. Especially from those witnesses that 'seen' it happen.
