Quick one... can anyone make any recommendations for walks to do with a six & nine year old, in region of the west coast of the lakes (yup, right next to Sellafield).

We've been to the other side of the lakes a couple of times, so exploring the coastal bit this time.

For context / ability, both the kids did the motorway on Pen Y Fan not so very long ago.

Ravenglass Railway - can go up to boot and walk from there, Muncaster Castle - ok not a walk but fun for kids.

Somewhere off was****er - about half way up there's an island that there are a few stepping stones to that the kids can scramble around on.

Western lakes are the best bit

Ratty in to eskdale then upto burmoor tarn or along the valley to the upper Esk

St Bees head

Blackcombe from whicham church

Mooch around Ennerdale water into the forest

Mitredale

Up wallowbarrow from seathwaite, along to hardknott forest back along the duddon

Seathwaite tarn (you'll need to drive over hardknott though as I think the bridge above seathwaite it still shut)

Red pike and round crummock and Buttermere

World's your lobster

Have a look around Dent, which is between Sellafield and Egremont. There’s lots of footpaths (and trails) around there.

Young kids? 101% go on the ratty! Plenty of walks from Dalegarth station, over the stepping stones by the church, follow the river up to the roman fort at Hardknott.

St Bees beach / St Bees Head, but check the tide times - aint no beach 2 hours either side of high tide. Otherwise get building sandcastles!

Ennerdale circuit.

(I used to live at St Bees, visit at least once a year)

The Lorton Fells are lovely and have great views

Go past Whinlatter and take them up Barf. The name is funny enough to keep them busy on the steep path up.

We holidayed earlier this summer in Eskdale we got the four y/o to do the walk from boot taking in Blea Tarn (good for a swim), Swiney Tarn, down to Fisherground Fm and the river back to Boot.

Lovely walk.

Isn’t that one of the most frequent mountain rescue call out spots!?!

Edit - I see they put a sign up a couple of years back to try and cut down on call outs: https://keswickmrt.org.uk/barf-rescue-blackspot-gets-new-sign/

Dent, which is between Sellafield and Egremont

It's the other side of Egremont - between there and Cleator Moor.

Done a couple of days on the st bees beach - worked a charm. Boys and dogs loved it.

Walked the shore of Ennerdale today, fab.

Might try the boot / blae tarn walk tomorrow.
