need somewhere fairly special on the west coast of scotland for a long weekend next month.

so far got glenfinnan house and torridon hotel - the inns a bit bland for the money they want if you get me.

anyone got any hidden gems they know of ?

West coast is a big place...

...3 chimneys or Kinloch Lodge on Skye
...Inverlochy castle nr Ft William

All Michelin Star so might be "fairly special"

At a more sensible price I've had a couple of really nice meals in the Ballachulish Hotel.

Does it need to be particularly close to good biking?

Stonefield Castle, near Tarbert, Argyll - amazing veiws across Loch Fyne from the dining room
Bridgend Hotel, Islay
Port Charlotte Hotel, Islay
Kilberry Inn, near Tarbert
Pier House, Appin
Inverlochy Castle is certainly very special (expensive)
The Moorings, Banavie (on Caledonian Canal)

Ah — you old romantic!
You'll not get much of a sunset at the Glenfinnan, lovely though it is.

Ballachullish would tick all the boxes though?

Glencoe House (the old hospital) has recently been done up quite spectacularly. It's not run quite as a hotel, but have a look at their website.

Applecross is rather nice. Hear it gets booked up a long time in advance though.

Arisaig, Applecross and Kinloch Lodge will get you in her good books, but none are cheap (although Applecross Inn is reasonable)

There's a lovely wee b&b in Shieldaig which my friends bailed to a couple of weeks ago after the midges became too much for them, it's got a good restaurant attached to it too, we ate there with them for a couple of nights. Has the advantage of being in Shieldaig, which has to be one of the most beautiful parts of the country (infinitely more interesting than Applecross if you are there for a few days)

This is the hotel : nowt fancy mind you

The pub/restaurant is the Shieldaig Costal Bar and Kitchen, which is attached to the hotel
