It may just be my sleep deprived brain after a night of being up pretty much all night with a poorly dog, but as I vegetate here on the sofa whilst he finally sleeps, I'm being drawn in by the teleshopping man who's trying to sell me a steam mop.
We have a selection of tiled, laminate, vinyl, rugged and carpeted floors, not to mention the aforementioned dog who, at times, has left little offerings on all of them, and the man tells me that a steam mop is just what I need to get them lovely and clean (not the dog, I assume I can't use a steam mop on a dog. Can I use a steam mop on a dog?).
Is he right, or do I need to go to bed?
We have 4 cats who vomit pretty much on everything.
Wooden floors are easy to clean with a cloth etc.
For carpets and furniture we have a mini Vax spot cleaner, which is really good.
We have one, it's ace. Gets all sorts off the laminate, even the drips of Osmo off the worktops.
Never used it on carpet admittedly but for hard surfaces it's difficult to beat short of swilling water and chemicals about whilst you kneel in it scrubbing.
Ours doesn't work very well on tortoise shift.
We have one..... Used it once and it was crap.
I then bought a karcher hard floor cleaner and it's great - gets used every weekend (in the winter) on our tiled, wooden and Amtico flooring.
That was 5 years ago..... Still going strong.
Spendy though.
Carpet = Vax carpet cleaner
Firstly have a nap..
secondly we may have what you need.. will message you.
I have a Karcher multi purpose steam cleaner, I bought it for sterilising my beer brewing equipment, also pretty good on hard floors with the right attachments and i'm just about to defrost the freezer with it.
i’m just about to defrost the freezer with it
ohhh never thought of doing that, an exciting monday afternoon ahead now
We have one somewhere, partner bought/used to use it (not sure if it’s broke now), I could never see what it did better than a mop or bit of effort.
Has anyone used one on Roman blinds?
Asking for a friend.
You mean "SteamMopTrackWorld - steam mopists to the forum!!"
No better than a dirty mop in my experience, had one for awhile, used it a few times, then it got recycled. Certainly didn't clean the bathroom tile grout like in the ads.
For context, ours is a Vax with removable pads, they're pretty rough so really scour the crap.
And no, not even comparable to a mop, not nearly as messy either.
Certainly didn’t clean the bathroom tile grout like in the ads
Mix some bleach with bicarbonate of soda, brush on the grout with an old toothbrush. Leave at least an hour, rinse off. Clean grout
Karcher hard floor cleaner cordless version. Works great, 'mops' the floor and is dry within a few minutes. £100 on karcher outlet.
The plug on version Hoover's bits up as well as mopping the floor . £130 on karcher outlet.
We've got a steam mop but I've hidden it away in the shed to stop others using it after we had LVT flooring installed - the heat from it can damage the glue in between layers. It also didn't work nicely on the cheap vinyl sheet flooring in the bathrooms and utility. Again the heat seemed to soften the floor and stop it gliding.
We had proper tiled floor in the last house and it was great for lifting dirt from the dogs/kids on those.
Never really got any use out of the other handheld options, it just seemed to leaved them soaked in warm water as soon as the steam cooled.
We got one years ago. It's at the back of the cupboard. Didn't clean any better/quicker and is pretty crap on any floor that is not smooth (ours is a bumpy slate type).
