Wife away visiting her friend, eldest at Gran's, just me and the baby, who was fast asleep upstairs in her cot. Peace. For the first time in five months, peace. I can finally adjust the cleats on my new shoes. Read a book. And [s]possibly[/s] definitely engage in some self-abuse.
2350hrs: BING BONG!
Open the door to the wife's cousin, who is in tears, and needs somewhere to stay. Seemingly a massive family row has kicked off tonight, orchestrated by my wife's gran, who is being taken away from us by dementia.
We had a brew and a chat, and now she's asleep in the absent daughter's Hello Kitty bed, and for some reason I've taken it upon myself to drink the better part of two bottles of wine, in preparation for the family fallout that's likely to engulf us tomorrow.
There's no actual point in me posting this, but typing it has given me justification for drinking the wine, as I needed a drink whilst I finished writing this post.
Night night xxx
enjoy!
Sorry to hear that dude, dementia is a cruel disease. I hope the fallout is short lived (or you have a shed/mancave to retreat to)
Is she fit? The cousin, not the gran......
OP - that situation deserves a much better rant. Yours is coherent! rAndOm CAPitals, mizspeld werds, random, commas, and such, are mandatory! You must try harder next time! 1/10 😡

😆
You really think your wife will believe that story?
Wife goes away for overnighter and you have female staying over in "spare" bed.
What bruneep says. Hell, I don't even believe that set of events!
🙂There's no actual point in posting this, other than it's an attempt at a cover story to show wife
Well I was expecting more from the story than she's asleep in the hello kitty bed. I'm disappointed you didn't get a chance to say hello kitty.
Asleep? Better get back on with the job in hand, what could possibly go wrong...
Bang her and when the wife comes home...
Blame it on the dementia.........
BING BONG
I really wanted the unexpected thing to be finding Leslie Phillips on your doorstep. Disappointed now 🙁
Blame it on the dementia.........
😆
Has it hit the fan already OP is quite. Or is it sexy times
Is she staying again tonight?
I'm expecting an interesting thread on dementiagranworld tonight when stevestunts gets booted for spending the night with his wife's cousin. With nowhere else to go, he rings his wife's gran's doorbell in tears...
dementiagranworld let's hope they save there passwords.
Out of place when it comes to this thread, but don't fear your wife loosing her gran. She will still be her gran, you'll all just need to figure out how to communicate with her as best as possible. There is lots of help out there and many many people are in a good place despite having advanced dementia. The key things are to not bombard them with information, allow them time to process information, not dismiss things as being because of the dementia etc. I love working with people who have dementia, it's incredibly rewarding and with the correct approach you can have a really positive outcome with them.
Well said Wanman....
Thanks wanmankylung. I've been in this situation before with my own gran, and my auntie is presently heading down the same route.
Whereas my gran was quite placid and just repeated the same stories endlessly, the difference in the current cases is that they're both incredibly stubborn individuals who are used to getting their own way, and are unable to see that, sadly, they're no longer making decisions that work in their best interests. They see people who're trying to look after them as meddling and this builds resentment which, in last night's case, was taken out on the person who was unfortunately enough to be in the room when it boiled over.
Sad times, but you can only do so much.
To address the other enquiries, no, I didn't.
The approach that I take is based on finding out which of their needs we are not meeting which is leading them to kick off. Imagine that your communication skills have disappeared, and your only way of getting your point across is to kick off. If someone tells you that you have to do something that you really don't want to do then you're just going to kick off more and more. It must be bloody scary when you cant clearly communicate your ideas and wishes.
