Hi all,

Wanting to look at and try on a load of rucksacks.

Specifically;

Osprey Kestrel 48, Talon 44 (not so important as I already have), and Exos 46.

But then also any others which are similar (medium size, comfortable, fairly lightweight, good hip pockets).

I went to Betws-y-Coed and was quite dissapointed, only 3 proper shops, not a huge amount of stock in them. Current plan is to order all 3 packs from Cotswolds and then return whichever I don't want to their store in Betws.

But going to a shop would be nice. Could drive to the Cotswolds in Chester (assuming they have the above in stock), but is there anywhere nearer/better (I'm in Colwyn Bay)?

Also, I'm quite keen on the Kestrel 48, but it does not have a floating lid. Is this a big deal? They seem pretty handy if you have a load of extra gear you want to carry which wouldn't normally fit...

Ta, Duane.

Ellis Brighams in Chester.
Blacks in the Broughton shopping centre thingy.
Go Outdoors Saltney.
Another one on Sealand Road, Chester.
My only other suggestion was Betws, but....

The Cotswold is not big so may not have a big range, there is a field and trek in Chester and a very big go outdoors in saltney and on sealand road there is a big outdoor place, probably worth a visit if you want to try a load of stuff, oh and there is a blacks on broughton park....

Cheers for the replies.

Might head to Go Outdoors then, it looks pretty big, guessing they have a good selection of bags?

In Llanberis there is Joe Browns and V12 - both very good independents. I'm not sure about V12 but I know Joe Browns stock a lot of Osprey stuff, they also have a second shop in Capel Curig and can stock check between the two if you don't fancy the extra 15 minute drive

All but the likes of Ultimate outdoors/plaent fear and Cotswolds in Betws are garbage and stock pretty much that. Llanberis has V12 and Joe Browns who stock a good range between them and I doubt you'll be dissapointed with the service in either shop.

Planet Fear ain't that bad, had both 5.10 approach and bike shoes last time I was in there. The Cotswolds staff are some of the more knowledgable I've come across too. Given the normal clientele of Betws they could be worse, but yes V12/Joe Browns are massively better
