I need to make a metal fence panel sort of thing. I have sketched a design which I am hoping will be easy to make and will look okay.

The panel is 800mm high and 1400mm wide.
I was thinking of using 20mm box section for the edges as that should be reasonably easy to cut straight and weld.
I was going to use some 10mm(?) rods for the uprights between the edges. I thought I could drill 10mm holes into the top and bottom rails and slot them in place then a couple of tacks to hold them still.
The horizontal slats would be thin strip steel weaved between the round uprights and then welded at each end. Unlike the picture, the slats should alternate their weave direction so hopefully wouldn't bend the round uprights.
1) Is 20mm suitable for the garden fence panel and what wall thickness would you recommend?
2) Does 10mm rod seem suitable or is there a better solution?
3) What metal should I use given I have a simple stick welder and so far have only worked with mild steel?
4) Any better designs or suggestions to make this simple?
5) I will also need an 800x1400 gate. What modifications do I need to make to this panel other than a couple of plates on one side for hinge holes and some kind of latch on the other side?
20mm box section sounds a bit flimsy for a panel that size.... especially a gate.
40mm?
What's it for?
Needs diagonals if a gate otherwise it'll just parallelogram. Use some of the strip steel welded to opposite corners, top corner on the hinge side. It'll stop the far side drooping down.
Mild steel is easiest to work with, welding anything else is a bit specialist. You'll just have to seal up the tubes to prevent water getting in.
Diagonal:
I could run all the strips diagonal rather than hotizontal. Would that work?
It is a garden gate and the panel it closes against
Just for show and those were the types of gates I had been looking at but not able to afford
